The Elder Scrolls series is full to the brim with some of the most memorable and iconic video games of all time. The world featured in each and every one of these games is absolutely vast and makes for a great time as players explore each and every corner of these games and try to figure out what lies within.
In fact, some of these corners hide the franchise's notorious villains, who have proven to be a thorn in the side of players over and over again. That being said, the progression featured in most Elder Scrolls games is brilliant and genuinely lets players feel like their strength and power are increasing with each successive level. However, that doesn't take away from the scare factor of the following villains in the series.
10 Dagoth Ur
The final antagonist of Morrowind is also one of the scariest enemies in the game, with the name Dagoth Ur being mentioned over and over again in the game up till this point. So, it's easy to see why some people might be intimidated by this character.
Players need to calm their nerves while fighting him, especially since he's immortal at the beginning of this battle. Players need to destroy the Heart of Lorkhan using the tools of Kagrenac before his immortality is finally removed.
9 Mehrunes Dagon
Watching the Mehrunes Dagon wreak havoc in Oblivion makes for one of the most memorable parts of the entire game. After all, watching this massive Daedric Prince wreak havoc in the Imperial City is pretty awe-inspiring.
It's also pretty scary to witness this sight, as well. Thankfully, players don't need to deal with this antagonist directly, since Martin Septim uses his body as a conduit for Akatosh, the Dragon God of Time, who banishes Mehrunes Dagon back to the realm of Oblivion for good.
8 Alduin
Alduin's introduction in Skyrim alone made him one of the most memorable characters in the entire series. In a way, this appearance spelled the end of his days, since it prevented the Dragonborn from getting the axe.
This series of events ultimately led to this hero facing off against Alduin and beating him in a climactic showdown for the ages. Fighting this dragon is pretty straightforward... although that doesn't take away from his intimidating presence that scares most fans to no end.
7 Hircine
Another Daedric Prince is Hircine, who wastes no time in letting players know how much of a threat he is. It doesn't help that he looks absolutely terrifying, especially since his head is that of a horned stag that can terrify anyone who looks at him.
Fighting him is one of the highlights of Bloodmoon, which is a pretty brilliant expansion pack in its own right. He might not be a slouch by any stretch of the imagination, but players who manage to best this powerful foe can feel really proud of themselves indeed.
6 Umaril The Unfeathered
One of the last Ayleid sorcerer-kings to still be alive during the timeline of Oblivion, Umaril the Unfeathered looks exactly like a diabolical villain. It's easy to see why so many people would be intimidated at the mere thought of trying to fight this powerful being.
However, with the help of the Knights of the Nine, the Hero of Kvatch is able to subdue this threat. It's a memorable fight in one of Oblivion's better expansions.
5 Lord Harkon
At a glance, Lord Harkon doesn't really seem like the scariest figure around. However, it's only after people see the true form of this vampire that they'll really get creeped out.
This Vampire Lord is pretty powerful, and the Dragonborn needs to throw everything but the kitchen sink into this battle to come out victorious. It's a harrowing battle that is made even harder by Harkon's extremely scary appearance during the fight.
4 Almalexia
While this is more to do with Morrowind's dated graphics, there's no denying the fact that Almalexia is possibly the creepiest-looking villain on this list. The fact that she looks like a normal human makes her even more terrifying to look at.
While her sights are set on killing the Gods, she first needs to deal with the Nerevarine. However, this proves to be a tougher task than she anticipated... although that doesn't stop her from giving her all in this high-stakes battle.
3 Jyggalag
Given Jyggalag's status as a Daedric Prince, it was clear from the get-go that he would be a rather intimidating foe indeed. This was certainly the case, with his appearance itself being so daunting to behold that facing him felt like a substantial challenge.
Given the immense quality of the Shivering Isles expansion, it's easy to see why Jyggalag is revered as one of the best antagonists in the series. The fact that this is the true identity of the legendary Sheogorath makes him even more interesting!
2 Miraak
Facing off against the first-ever Dragonborn is a pretty intimidating prospect, as is. This, coupled with Miraak's insatiable lust for power, turned him into a pretty daunting enemy to face off against indeed.
His arrogance and a penchant to annoy the player time and time again with his actions make the act of striking him down pretty satisfying. It's a shame that he went down a dark path after being chosen as the Dragonborn since he could've been a hero in his own right.
1 Molag Bal
Molag Bal is a name that players have heard time and time again in the series, so it's easy to see why facing off against this Daedric Prince would be a scary prospect. It certainly doesn't help that Molag Bal looks positively horrifying to boot!
Fighting against this enemy in the base game of The Elder Scrolls Online made for a great time and was a strong start to this budding MMORPG. The fact that this figure had stolen the player's soul itself upped the stakes of this fight even more!
