Following Scalebound's initial reveal during the Xbox E3 2014 media briefing, the action role-playing game from developer Platinum Games experienced subsequent delays and was eventually cancelled, which resulted in disappointment among myriad Xbox One fans. Interestingly enough, though, should information from a new report be accurate, then the once-canned Xbox One exclusive is being revived as a Nintendo Switch-only release.

According to a set of anonymous sources from the online outlet Nintendo Insider, while Scalebound is set to launch on the Switch, there's no word just yet as to whether or not development is picking up from where it originally left off or if it has been completely rebooted. Again, should these details be legitimate, then this could very well be the title which Game Informer claimed was once "dead" and is being worked on by Nintendo.

In addition to Nintendo Insider's report, it's also worth mentioning that the games journalist and former IGN editor Alanah Pearce was told in June 2018 by a "fairly credible" source that despite its cancellation, Scalebound would still be receiving a release at some point down the line. The only detail she received in regards to its supported platforms was that it would not be launching as an Xbox One exclusive.

For those unaware, Microsoft had actually renewed the trademark for Scalebound after shutting down production on the action-RPG, but apparently, it soon had to abandon the filing due to the company being unable to state what it would use the trademark for. With this being the case, it looks as if Nintendo could be acting as the Platinum Games project's new publisher in order to revive the title and have it launch for Switch.

Taking everything here into account, the potential revivification of Scalebound as a Nintendo Switch exclusive would surely delight those hoping for the title to see the light of day once more. Unfortunately, it could possibly pour more salt in the wound of Microsoft fans hoping for an Xbox One release. Naturally, though, with neither Platinum Games or the Big N having confirmed Scalebound's resurgence just yet, we will have to wait and see if the rumors are true.

Scalebound has yet to be officially announced as being in production once more.
