Adult Swim Games and Soleil Games have teamed up and announced Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time with an official trailer. The announcement trailer marks the game's release for Summer 2020 on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time follows Samurai Jack through different eras as he fights his way to a final showdown with his nemesis, Aku. The trailer reveals several locations where Samurai Jack fights various foes, including a futuristic city, stone ruins and a bayou. Each of these locations seems to have a different set of enemies, usable weapons, and outfits for Jack. Apart from his signature katana, Jack is seen wielding a trident, hammer, and even a machine gun.

Based on the trailer, each of these weapons has different abilities and combos. Many time travel games have upgrades and unlockable items based on the location or time the level is in, so Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time will most likely follow the same path.

The game description indicates that throughout the game, Jack will team up with allies and fight in locations from the original show. Although no allies are shown in the trailer, many characters from the show could make an appearance. The game description also indicates that there will be over a dozen weapons to use, as well as skills and abilities to upgrade. The game is listed as a 3D hack and slash, so the combat system will hopefully be deep enough to keep players trying new moves, combos, and weapons.

Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time will aim to follow the show closely. The head writer of the animated series also wrote the game's script, so it will most likely be very accurate to the show. The animated show ran from 2001 to 2004, and then a final season was released in 2017.

It appears the game will also pull inspiration from the final season because the trailer shows Samurai Jack with a long hair and long beard, as he appears in the final season. The animated show received high praise and won several Emmys and with any video game adaptation of a successful show, expectations are high to produce a game that fits the theme of the show, but gives players new content to enjoy.

The announcement trailer reveals some of the aspects of the game, but many questions remain. Adult Swim Games is scheduled for a spot at PAX East, where they will answer more questions about the game on February 28th. Although some companies have cancelled their appearances due to the coronavirus, Adult Swim Games is still set to appear.

Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time is scheduled for Summer 2020 on PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
