Adult Swim Games and Soleil Games have revealed the release date for Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time in a new trailer released today. Fans interested in the video game adaptation of the animated series will be able to play it on August 21, a date not too far from now. The game will retail for $39.99 and will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam.

Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time is a hack and slash game based on the animated series that follows the eponymous protagonist as he travels through different timelines on the way to battle his nemesis Aku. The trailer depicts Jack fighting through enemies using a diverse range of weaponry including a katana, a mace, a bow, and even a gun.

Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time was announced earlier this year to much fanfare from fans of the animated series, which initially aired for four seasons on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004 before a 2017 revival on Adult Swim. As evidenced by the trailer which depicts Jack with long hair and a beard, the game will take place during the events of the Adult Swim revival.

Samurai Jack's Switch file size was confirmed earlier this year and bodes well for other systems, allowing this to be an easily-digestible view into what made this series so beloved to get a revival more than a decade after it initially ended. With the game being based on the Adult Swim revival as opposed to the Cartoon Network run, there is room for a more nuanced exploration of the character of Samurai Jack and his battle against his nemesis in Aku.

Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time isn't the first time in which an Adult Swim property has been adapted for gaming, with Rick and Morty having received a virtual reality game. Considering that the game was created in partnership with series creator Genndy Tartakovsky, fans should have considerable faith that the game will be a faithful adaptation and could be yet another great game based off a TV show.

Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time will release on August 21 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
