Franchise creator Sam Raimi has recently revealed that he has seen several cuts of Evil Dead Rise, and he pronounced the upcoming horror flick as absolutely terrifying and brilliant. The latest installment in the beloved franchise follows a young woman named Beth who visits her single mother, her sister Ellie, and the rest of her family in their tiny, overcrowded Los Angeles apartment.

Things take a turn for the worse when someone discovers that the eerie Necronomicon Ex-Mortis has been hidden in the building. A demonic presence accidentally becomes unleashed and on the loose. The two sisters end up having to banish and defeat the demon in order to protect their family. Actress Lily Sullivan stars as the main lead, portraying the lead character Beth. Sullivan is accompanied by cast members Alyssa Sutherland as Ellie, Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, and Mia Challis. Development on the new Evil Dead Rise movie was basically in limbo for a total of six years.

The original plan for the Evil Dead franchise was to create a follow-up to Fede Alvarez’s 2013 reboot/sequel and then incorporate a crossover of Bruce Campbell's original films. However, that vision was completely abandoned for an entirely new storyline, with The Hole in the Ground's Lee Cronin now signed on to write and direct. Production on the upcoming Evil Dead Rise started in June and finished in October 2021. Now, with Evil Dead Rise's release more imminent, audiences are now getting an exciting, yet incredibly horrifying first look at what they can expect from the film. Recently, while speaking to Slash Film about his superhero return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Raimi finally shared his thoughts on Evil Dead Rise.

The franchise creator/executive producer confessed that he has seen various cuts of Evil Dead Rise and is eager to share the film’s undeniable terror with fans. "I’ve seen a rough cut of Evil Dead Rise, a medium-fine cut, and a fine cut," Raimi said. "There’s probably a few changes that Lee Cronin is making that I haven’t seen, but it’s great. It’s terrifying, and it’s going to knock people’s socks off."

Raimi's sign-off and praise of Evil Dead Rise is promising, especially since many fans are still a bit disappointed due to the apparent lack of Campbell's Ash Williams in the film. Cronin is well regarded in the horror genre, most famously known for his gothic taste and his ability to manipulate and illuminate dread and despair on screen. Although the release date for Evil Dead Rise remains hidden for now, fans can catch up on the franchise with the original Evil Dead trilogy, which is streaming on HBO Max, and The Hole in the Ground on Showtime.

Evil Dead Rise is expected to premiere on HBO Max in 2022.
