Last month, to many fans' surprise, a group of ex-Telltale Games developers announced that they had formed Skunkape Games, and that they were planning on bringing the studio's Sam and Max titles back in remastered form. Sam and Max Save the World, which originally released episodically between October 2006 and July 2007, marked the comic book series' return to video games for the first time since Sam and Max: Hit the Road in 1993. Skunkape Games has now confirmed that it has already begun work on remastering seasons 2 and 3 of the adventure game series in a Reddit AMA.

Sam and Max Save the World released to critical acclaim, however many critics were concerned over the game's release at the time as it was one of the first games to release episodically. While the original released episodically on PC and Xbox 360, with a full release later coming for Nintendo Wii, the remaster is currently exclusive to PC and Nintendo Switch. Skunkape's remaster of the game was also supervised by Sam and Max comic book creator Steve Purcell and developed by many of the staff who worked on the original game.

During a AMA on r/NintendoSwitch, Skunkape Games confirmed that it had started development on a remaster of Save the World's sequel series, Sam and Max Beyond Time and Space, before the game even released earlier this month. The studio also plans on remastering Sam and Max: The Devil's Playhouse, the final instalment in Telltale's series. The developer claimed that while it has started work on Beyond Time and Space's remaster, it is still waiting to see how the first game's remaster preforms financially before deciding on its scope.

Sam and Max Save the World's remaster introduced new models for the protagonists, new lighting, new music, and a new voice actor for Bosco. However, Skunkape claiming that it has not yet decided on the scope of Beyond Time and Space's remaster implies that the studio is considering going even further for the remasters of seasons 2 and 3. Currently, Skunkape only owns the rights to Telltale's Sam and Max titles, so it seems unlikely that the team will be able to make its own entry in the series for the time being.

Sam and Max Save the World Remastered is out now on Nintendo Switch and PC.
