Many of the weapons in Salt and Sacrifice give players the opportunity to use special abilities when they are equipped. Those abilities are called Runic Arts, and they can be split into two categories: those that require Rage and those that require Focus. For those players that may be unclear about how to use Runic Arts in Salt and Sacrifice, this guide has full details on this important gameplay mechanic.

Salt and Sacrifice: How to Use Runic Arts

The first step toward using Runic Arts is to obtain a weapon that has such a skill attached to it. To confirm that a weapon does indeed have a Runic Art, Salt and Sacrifice players should simply highlight the weapon within their inventories and tab to its second page using R2/RT. This page will display a variety of information about the weapon's Runic Art, if it has one, including details on a requirement that fans must fulfill before they can use the ability.

More specifically, the Runic Art's Divine Glyph or Forbidden Glyph requirement will be listed directly below its name on its information page. Indeed, Runic Arts are very much like weapons and armor, as players must unlock the relevant skills in order to use them. For weapons with Divine Glyph Runic Arts, Glyphreader skills are required, and they can be found just below the center of Salt and Sacrifice's skill tree. And for weapons with Forbidden Glyph Runic Arts, Banereader skills, which are also below the middle of the skill tree, are needed.

Once a weapon with a Runic Art has been equipped and the requisite skills have been unlocked, players are ready to use the ability. For Runic Arts that require Rage, that process begins with dealing damage to enemies and filling the Rage bar. This bar can be found just below the Runic Art icon in the top-left corner of the screen, and Souls-like fans can execute the skill by holding block (L2/LT) and pressing the input that appears underneath the bar when they have a sufficient amount of Rage.

Things are quite similar when it comes to using Runic Arts that require Focus, with the key difference being that players do not build that resource through attacking enemies. Instead, Salt and Sacrifice characters begin with a full Focus bar that will be depleted as they use their Runic Arts. Fans can then restore some of their Focus by using Haze Decoctions, allowing them to continue executing their weapon skills.

Salt and Sacrifice is available on PC, PS4, and PS5.
