Last year, Saints Row: The Third received a new remastered version for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with it eventually coming to Google Stadia as well this past March. PC owners, however, could only get it via the Epic Game Store, but that exclusivity is coming to an in only a few days. As it turns out, however, Steam owners won't be the only ones who'll be able to get their hands on the game.

Earlier today, publisher Deep Silver announced on the game's official website that Saints Row: The Third Remastered will also be getting a next-gen release on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Not only that, but it's releasing on the very same day as the Steam version, May 22. Deep Silver also assures that this next-gen release will be on par with the PC version in terms of settings and will be a free download to anyone who already owns the PS4 or Xbox One version.

As for what technical improvements will be featured, it's otherwise exactly what one would expect from a next-gen release. Both versions will sport a framerate boost to 60fps and dynamic 4K resolution. However, only the Xbox Series X version will offer the choice between a Performance mode and a Beauty mode. Much like what other games such as Resident Evil Village have, Performance mode offers 60fps at a 1080p resolution. Beauty mode, on the other hand, only allows for 30fps but runs at a 4K resolution.

Thanks to the more powerful consoles, these versions will benefit from faster load times, and the PS5's DualSense controller will even have its own Saints Purple colored glow, which has apparently been a popular request from fans. Lastly, Deep Silver confirms that the game will also be available on Good Old Games on the same day.

For anyone unfamiliar with the series, Saints Row can probably best described as a more outlandish and over-the-top Grand Theft Auto. The series revolves around a street gang called the 3rd Street Saints as they engage in turf wars with rival organizations. In Saints Row: The Third, which is considered the moment where the series became more comedic to help it differentiate from GTA, the Saints are now a media and consumer empire. But an international crime organization called The Syndicate seeks to destroy them, prompting the Saints to fight back on the former's hometurf of Steelport.

The remaster was mostly positively received by critics when it launched. However, that was mostly down to the fact that the original game still held up, as the remaster changed very little outside of some graphical improvements.

Saints Row: The Third Remastered is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One, and releases on May 22 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
