Despite the franchise seemingly winding down a number of years ago, Saints Row has had something of a new lease of life as of late. Not only did a new entry in the series get announced last year, but a live-action adaptation of the film was also revealed to be in production, with the director claiming it will be the next insane film franchise like Fast and FuriousEvidently, Saints Row has come back from the dead in a big way, and a recent leak seems to hint that Deep Silver hopes to capitalize on this renewed interest in the franchise with Saints Row 3.

As seen below, it seems Gamefly has posted two listings for unannounced PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Saints Row: The Third - Remastered on its site, which remained for some time before being officially removed. The listings are fairly unrevealing in terms of details, but what is there seems to make sense for a remaster of the third entry in the Saints Row franchise.

It will supposedly be published by Deep Silver, the owner of Saints Row, as well as have an M rating, which lines up with the rating of the original game. It will also allegedly release on May 7, 2020, yet this could merely be a placeholder until an official date is set in stone. Seen as the title recently made its way to the Nintendo Switch as well, it's not too much of a stretch to believe that Deep Silver is looking to stir excitement for the franchise's return by re-releasing it on modern hardware. Perhaps the game will, in turn, be released alongside the official reveal of Saints Row 5.

It would definitely line up with what Koch Media and Deep Silver have revealed about plans for the next entry in the series, with the two claiming that discussions about Saints Row 5 will take place in 2020. Seemingly, Saints Row: The Third - Remastered could be an entertaining place holder to remind players why the franchise is revered by so many while the fifth title is in development.

Saints Row: The Third is often looked at by fans as the biggest turning point in the entire series, with the game taking the already eccentric franchise to astronomical heights when it released in 2011. It introduced a number of insane elements to the formally fairly grounded crime series, including zombies, Burt Reynolds as an AI companion, a gun that summons sewer sharks, and a deadly Japanese game show run by an incredibly violent anime cat. It's undeniably an insane experience, and many will no doubt be keen to return to it if this Saints Row: The Third - Remastered Edition leak turns out to be authentic.

Saints Row: The Third - Remastered Edition is rumored to be released on May 7 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
