It seems like with each new trailer THQ releases for Saints Row: The Third that we receive, the more this game continues to show it isn't just a one-trick pony. This newest trailer, which introduces players to the rival cyber gang known as The Deckers, is no exception.

Part of what makes The Saints encounter with The Deckers in Saints Row: The Third so unique takes place about halfway into the trailer, when the player must jump into a cyberspace/Tron-esque world and do battle on a virtual plane. If you thought this game was all nutshots and giant sex toys, then you were totally wrong (but it has a lot of those too).

It’s hard to tell from the trailer whether the encounter with The Deckers is just a one-off scenario, and if your newest recruit Kinzie Kensington will prove to be useful later in the game, but as a small mission subset, this is pretty compelling. See for yourself:

If you’ve yet to check out Saints Row: The Third’s trailers because either you thought Volition’s claims that they were going more realistic would abandon the series’ humor or you have always thought the game was a poor man’s open-world game, we highly recommend you give Saints Row: The Third a look. Yes, there is a mixture of competent gameplay and over-the-top antics at play, but it’s also one of the best iterations of the franchise we have seen.

And, with THQ’s recent announcement of up to 40 weeks of DLC coming down the pipeline it’s hard not to think of this game as a worthwhile investment. Sure, there’s Skyrim on the horizon. But Skyrim doesn’t let you pick people up off the street, stuff them into a giant canon attached to a truck, and then shoot them in the air.

What do you think of this Tron-inspired storyline in Saints Row: The Third? Since apparently all bets are off what else would you like to see the game explore?

Saints Row: The Third releases November 15, 2011 for PS3, PC, and Xbox 360.
