It has been nearly seven years since Volition released Saints Row 4 and in that time, longtime fans of the series have had no clue when to expect a new installment. Having said that, Nintendo Switch owners will soon have the opportunity to experience the fourth installment of the Saints Row franchise.
Saints Row is a series developed by Volition, whose first installment was released back in August of 2006. With four main installments and numerous expansions, Saints Row has its fair share of fans, to the point where a movie based on the series was almost made.
Nintendo has announced a port of the fourth installment of the series for the Nintendo Switch titled Saints Row 4: Re-Elected. The port will release on March 27th, 2020 and give a new generation of gamers a chance to experience Saints Row 4 for the first time.
However, in light of this news, many fans might be wondering when Volition will release a new installment of Saints Row? The fourth game in the main was released in 2013 and with the exception of a standalone expansion of Saints Row 4, there hasn't been a new Saints Row game in the last seven years. Supposedly, a new game is set to be announced in 2020, but no new additional information has surfaced since that news was first released.
A lot of fans have been rather frustrated with Volition's lack of response in terms of Saints Row. It would be one thing if Volition had decided to end the series at Saints Row 4, but the ending of that game gave no indication of permanently ending. But rather than continue the Saints Row story, Volition delivered Agents of Mayhem, which received less than stellar review scores and was met with some confusion.
Having said all this, this port is by no means unwelcome. With all the third party support the Nintendo Switch has gotten since its release, the console has allowed new players to experience older games on a newer system. Not to mention, there is still a possibility that a new Saints Row game could be announced this year. Fans will just have to wait and find out.
