Netflix has released the first trailer for Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie leading up to its streaming premiere. The two-part anime film is based on the Dream arc of the manga by Naoko Takeuchi and serves as a direct continuation of the Sailor Moon Crystal anime series.

The official synopsis for the film from Netflix reads, "When a dark power enshrouds earth and a dark circus troupe appears after a total solar eclipse, the scattered Sailor Guardians must reunite to bring light back into the world." Sailor Moon was a popular Japanese anime series that ran from 1992 to 1997. The series spawned the 2014 reboot titled Sailor Moon Crystal and the upcoming movie will serve as the fourth season for that show.

The trailer shows the whole Sailor Moon gang teaming up to fight Queen Nehelenia, leader of an evil group called The Dead Moon Circus, who seeks to scatter nightmare incarnations called Lemures across the world, obtain the Legendary Silver Crystal, rule the Earth and Moon, and eventually the universe. There's plenty of impressive anime-style action as Usagi/Sailor Moon leads the Sailor Guardians to protect the universe. The trailer ends with the titular heroine delivering her signature catchphrase, "In the name of the moon I, Sailor Moon, will punish you!" This phrase was made famous by the original series, and apparently, the same stock footage was used each time she said it.

The English-language voice cast includes Stephanie Sheh as Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon, Kate Higgins as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury, Cristina Vee as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars, Amanda C. Miller as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter, Cherami Leigh as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus, Sandy Fox as Chibi-Usa/Sailor Chibi Moon, Veronica Taylor as Setsuna Meioh/Sailor Pluto, Erica Mendez as Haruka Tenoh/Sailor Uranus, Lauren Landa as Michiru Kaioh/Sailor Neptune, Christine Marie Cabanos as Hotaru Tomoe/Sailor Saturn, Robbie Daymond as Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Mask, Michelle Ruff as Luna, Johnny Yong Bosh as Artemis and Deby Dayberry as Diana. Both parts are directed by Chiaki Kon, written by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, chief supervised by Naoko Takeuchi, and produced by both Toei Animation and Studio Deen.

Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie was initially slated for a theatrical debut in Japan in September 2020. However, as was the case with many films that year, the two-part film was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie premiered in Japan earlier this year and was the first movie in the franchise to play in theatres in 26 years. Netflix has acquired the worldwide streaming rights for the two-part film and will be premiering the English language version on their platform in June.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie will premiere exclusively on Netflix, June 3rd, 2021.
