Media Molecule became famous for its LittleBigPlanet series before going off to make the sandbox creation game Dreams for PS4. Now the property is under the purview of Sumo Digital, and today a new 3D-platforming game called Sackboy: A Big Adventure was announced during the "Future of Gaming" PlayStation 5 event.

The title appears to lean more into LittleBigPlanet's platforming side than its level creation aspects, featuring up to four-player co-op with new characters that have very colorful designs compared to the recognizable brown knit look of the title character, Sackboy. The world Sackboy and his partners traverse certainly resembles the kind of found-object constructed environments that fans of the series are used to, a style that has since also been seen in games like Yoshi's Crafted World.

While Sackboy: A Big Adventure looks fun and well put-together in the, not much information was provided about it other than its impending release on the PS5. No release date, or even a general release window, was given for the LittleBigPlanet game before moving into new announcements like Hitman 3 and Horizon: Forbidden West.

In the description for the official trailer uploaded by the PlayStation YouTube account following the event, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is touted for having a "deeply immersive and expressive control scheme" that will open up "chaotic multiplayer fun." Another fan-favorite series will be coming back on the PS5, as one of the first announcements made during the event was Insomniac Games' Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

While a huge amount of games were showcased during the Future of Gaming event, arguably one of the biggest things Sony unveiled was the design of the PS5 console. Not only that, it revealed that there are going to be two versions of the console, one of which being a digital-only version, as well as additional accessories like a camera and controller charging dock. Whether or not some of these accessories will contribute to Sackboy: A Big Adventure's gameplay is yet to be seen.

That said, despite its seemingly only 3D-platformer focus, the game should be a welcome return for fans of the series that has not seen a game since 2014's LittleBigPlanet 3. If nothing else it promises to be a cute showcase for what the next-generation console is capable of given the reveal trailer opens with Sackboy tricking audiences by wearing a tiger costume.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is in development for PS5.
