Sable is one of the more unique games in the open-world genre. Rather than tasking the player with stopping some world-conquering villain or halting a planet-destroying calamity, Sable is more concerned with encouraging exploration and finding a place in its rich, colorful world. To that end, the game is filled with interesting locations to discover and people to meet in every corner of its expansive map.

Some areas are harder to find than others, with a select few proving to be the most difficult to discover in the entire game. Whether the player is climbing to the top of a mountain or exploring deep within a mysterious statue, these are just a few of the best-hidden locations in Sable.

10 Mysterious Shrine

A mysterious ruin with several pedestals in front of Sable

On the Eastern edge of the Badlands, just to the Southwest of the Hercules Beetle Nest, is a strange ruin known as the Mysterious Shrine. Nestled under one of the natural stone formations that dot the Badlands, the Shrine is easy to overlook, as it has only one entrance and no specific quest to draw players to it.

Speaking to Fir, a machinist exploring the ruins, unlocks a questline that takes players across the entire map seeking out more hidden ruins. Driving the jetbike through ancient rings opens six buried temples, containing a Hicaric Ring. This ring can be brought back to the Mysterious Shrine to unlock special bike parts.

9 Thieving Magpie Well

Sable standing at the edge of a ruin going underground

Just to the Southwest of Eccria, players can find a large hole in the ground known as the Thieving Magpie Well. There are several levels for Sable to explore as she descends, with at least one Chum Egg to collect tucked away in a corner. At the bottom, players will find Micah, a Climber who is too exhausted to make his way back on his own.

Helping Micah out rewards players with a Climber badge, something they'll need if they want to earn the Climber's mask. But don't leave too quickly: a small, secret room at the bottom of the well houses a chest with the Eccrine Guard top inside.

8 The Eyrie

One of the most breathtaking locations in all of Sable, the Eyrie is also one of the hardest to reach. Located at the top of the stone pillars near the Cartographer's balloon in the Badlands, the Eyrie can only be reached through some creative jumping and careful climbing.

Once there, players can find two harvesters who use bird...excrement for a variety of purposes. One of the harvesters will even sell Sable some rare bike parts, and two chests contain the Eyries clothing set. Two Chum Eggs can also be found at the top of two of the roosts.

7 Kemble's Cube

In the southeastern corner of the Badlands, players can find the wreckage of a crashed ship leaning up against a stone pillar. Upon approaching the crash site, a climber will taunt Sable from the top of the wreck, daring her to prove her ability as a climber by reaching the summit.

Inside players can find a climbing challenge that requires them to make their way up through the interior of the ship, climbing along mesh surfaces and leaping from various moving platforms to get to the top. If players can make their way through the challenge, the Climber will reward Sable with a Climber Badge.

6 The Wyrm

Sable sitting in stone worms mouth, rows of teeth behind her

Easily the most mysterious location in all of Sable, the Wyrm is not necessarily all that hard to find: it's a giant, stone worm rising out of the desert. Figuring out the mystery of the Wyrm, however, is a much harder feat. If players manage to climb up the spines to the Wyrm's mouth, they'll find a small camp with a bleak diary entry that hints at a way to go inside the statue.

By using the bike call, Sable can summon a rock-like object to open the flap at the back of the Wyrm's mouth, revealing a Legend of Zelda-style dungeon within the still-alive Wyrm's body. Navigating through the puzzles inside rewards players with the Sandworm Mask.

5 The Shade's Hidey Hole

Since every quest in Sable is technically optional, some of the more interesting ones can be easy to overlook. One of these can be found under the entrance to Eccria. Here, an old man named Maz will ask Sable to help break his son out of jail with the help of a unique mask that once belonged to the Shade of Eccria.

To find the mask, players will have to follow a trail of symbols through the town, past the lake on the other side, and into a small cave where Maz hid his old mask. After helping his son, Maz asks Sable to keep the mask in case it might be of use to her in the future.

4 Llhor's Hideaway

As an open-world game with no combat, Sable relies heavily on exploration and solving cryptic puzzles. In the town of Eccria, Sable can find an Atomic Priest who will task her with finding Llhor, a legendary storyteller who's wandered outside the Priesthood's influence.

The Priest provides the locations of three camps Llhor might have visited, and Sable can find clues to Llhor's whereabouts at each camp. After traveling to the Sodic Wastes and following the aim of a series of archer statues through a ship graveyard, players can find Llhor holed up in a cave hidden in the side of a stone pillar.

3 Steam Geyser Pillars

The Steam Geyser Pillars are an unnamed landmark in the Sodic Wastes in the Northeast corner of the world map. While they're relatively easy to spot from a distance because of their height and the jets of steam they shoot into the air, climbing them is a bit more challenging.

The cliff faces are too tall to scale by climbing alone, but the geysers give Sable a boost if she stands in them while they're going off. There's also a Badge to earn for helping a nearby Climber steal some eggs. Finally, it's also one of the best locations to look out at the game's beautiful world.

2 The Chum Lair

Sable speaking with antlered worm, who says "Ah, hell, wanderer!"

As players make their way around the world of Sable they'll stumble on strange, worm-looking creatures that transform into the game's persistent collectible: the Chum Egg. There are dozens to find all around the world, but it can be hard to find where they're supposed to be turned in.

To the Southwest of Burnt Oak Station players can find the Chum Lair, a crumbling tower held up by the Chum Queen. In return for bringing her children back to her, the Queen will give Sable one of her tears, a rare item that permanently boosts Sable's maximum stamina.

1 The Watch

The Watch is one of the best and most complicated puzzles Sable has to offer. Located in the far southeastern corner of the map, The Watch is a giant sundial/observatory that houses a pretty remarkable secret.

The puzzle requires aligning the machine at the right time of day to then insert a stone into the right pedestal and open the secret door. The secret room inside The Watch houses a large diorama of the solar system that players can inspect to discover more about the world and lore of the game.
