Remember when we encouraged you to check out Exploding Rabbit's flash game Super Mario Bros. Crossover?

Well, thanks to the continued efforts of the game's developer Jay Pavlina, you've got one more reason to play the retro gaming mash-up - Ryu Hayabusa.

Fresh from destroying the Archfiend menace in Ninja Gaiden 2, Ryu dons his 8-bit clothes to assist in rescuing Princess Toadstool from yet another kind of dragon - Bowser.

Ryu will be added in upcoming version 1.1 of Super Mario Bros. Crossover, in the meantime Pavlina has put together a great trailer showcasing what to expect:

While the first batch of Super Mario Bros. Crossover characters definitely make the NES title a bit easier, Ryu's ability to climb on walls as well as his ranged star projectile will just about break the game - though, in this case, that's not a bad thing.

How many times have you returned to a game from your childhood only to remember the tedious and limited gameplay - the gameplay that used to have you throwing your controller across the room? What's great about Pavlina's retro mash-up is that it fills our nostalgia cravings, while also giving us some new ways to experience an old game.

While no official release information for Super Mario Bros. Crossover version 1.1 have been announced - we'll update you as soon as it goes live.

Have you played Super Mario Bros. Crossover? Who else would you like to see added to the roster?
