Ryan Reynolds shared the first trailer for his upcoming Netflix film, The Adam Project. The trailer hints at a film full of time travel, childhood wonder, and a more family-friendly version of Reynolds' humor than seen in recent Deadpool films.

The Adam Project, premiering on Netflix in March 2022, tells the story of Adam Reed, a time traveler, who crash lands in 2022 and teams up with his younger self and his deceased father to save the future. The project was directed by Shawn Levy, most known for Night at the Museum, and will star Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, Zoe Saldana, and newcomer Walker Scobell alongside Ryan Reynolds.

The Adam Project trailer shows 12-year-old Adam struggling with the expectations of his mother (Garner) and the death of his father (Ruffalo). After a mysterious object crashes into the woods by Adam's house, young Adam goes out to investigate and finds the pilot, who he soon discovers is an older version of himself from the future. While the reason is not given in the trailer, the two Adams must team up to save themselves and the future. The first glimpse into the world of The Adam Project promises a lot of sci-fi goodies such as invisible ships, futuristic weapons, and, of course, time travel. However, the official synopsis of the film hints at a deeper story below the special effects and humor. The official synopsis released by Netflix hints at Adam needing the trip "to come to terms with his past," the specifics of which remain a mystery for now. Reynolds shared the trailer on his Twitter this morning and shared a bit about the fun he had making the film.

The Adam Project is not the first time a few of the stars have worked together, which hints at a previous familiarity that can also help the film's on-screen chemistry. Garner and Ruffalo starred alongside each other in the romantic comedy 13 Going on 30 back in 2004. Reynolds and director Levy also have previous experience with each other, having worked together on the 2021 comedy Free Guy. Guardians of the Galaxy's Saldana starring as a cool time-traveling soldier is also a good match because her previous roles prove she shines in that kind of character.

The Adam Project won't be available on Netflix until next month, but it certainly has a lot of positive things going for it that hint it could be a success. Previous cast chemistry, the star and director having previously worked together, and the bells and whistles of time travel sound like a recipe for a fun sci-fi experience.

The Adam Project will be available on Netflix March 11, 2022.
