It was back in the more innocent days of 2014 that Marvel's infamous mercenary Deadpool was down on his luck, his big hollywood movie suffering in an eternal development hell that seemed to have no end in sight. But then, the unthinkable happened: a mysterious and presumably very handsome scoundrel went and leaked the test footage.

The clip went viral almost instantly, showing a rough animated test of what the movie might look like, with Reynolds providing a voice to the latest version of the katana-wielding anti-hero. Six years and two successful films later, Reynolds has posted to Twitter a special Deadpool edition of Unsolved Mysteries, attempting to tackle his biggest case yet: 'who leaked the test footage.'

According to Deadpool's investigation, possible culprits include Rob Liefeld, Hugh Jackman, Blake Lively, Betty White, and possibly Deadpool himself. No doubt Deadpool has been working hard at this investigation day and night, and will have the suspects whittled down even further in time for upcoming Deadpool 3, which Reynolds also teased in his tweet.

The gag comes at a timely moment, as the Unsolved Mysteries reboot on Netflix is met with enthusiasm from streaming audiences. Perhaps Deadpool could offer his services to the show, which has already received several helpful new leads for the cold cases featured in the new series.

The fact that the original leak likely came from within the studio as a method of gauging interest for the project is a common theory, and something of an open secret. Reynolds himself has publicly admitted in the past that the leak could only have been pulled off by himself, director Tim Miller, or screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. If this is true, it certainly had the desired effect, with Deadpool and Deadpool 2 becoming huge box office hits, both of them taking the spot of highest grossing R-rated films before being edged out by Joker in 2019.

While there is still little news about Deadpool 3, there is always the hope that Disney will see fit to announce a release date soon. For the time being however, it seems audiences will be waiting at least a year or so for more information about the merc-with-a-mouth's next foray into big budget cinema.

Unsolved Mysteries is currently available on Netflix. Deadpool 3 will be released to theaters in the distant future.
