Ryan Reynolds is getting jacked up with Hugh Jackman in preparation for his upcoming sequel Deadpool 3. Not only is the endlessly comedic actor training his body to play the titular merc with a mouth again, but his wit is keeping up, as he's got some characteristic words of good-natured shade for Jackman.

Jackman is set to appear in Deadpool 3 alongside Reynolds, and he's been training for his return as Wolverine. Now, it looks like Reynolds is catching up on the physical side of things. It's appropriate that such a team-up would happen, seeing as how Deadpool often rags on Wolverine while Reynolds and Jackman share a similarly cheeky relationship. Based on Reynolds' update, their banter-filled camaraderie appears to be as strong as ever.

Sharing a picture to his Instagram story, Reynolds offered fans a look at how buff he's gotten in preparation for the return of Deadpool. The image features the actor pumping some weights while fitness trainer Don Saladino looks on in that intense yet jovial way trainers do. Being Reynolds, however, he had to add a little snark to the occasion. In this case, it came in a caption that read, "I'm not training for Deadpool. I'm training to spend several months with Hugh Jackman — who's not nearly as nice as everyone thinks."

It's unclear what sort of role Wolverine will play in Deadpool 3, but the character and the actor have been referenced plenty both in-universe and in the real world by Deadpool and Reynolds over the years. At this point, it seems like this collaboration was more a matter of when than if. It will probably feature plenty of bickering and banter between the two, which is likely what the fans want.

Deadpool 3 will be one of the more raw and gritty MCU offerings, and the intense training that both Reynolds and Jackman are undergoing will help it reach those levels. The previous 2 films were wacky yet ultraviolent forays into a world disconnected from anything else Marvel-related, so fans were concerned that joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe would dampen Deadpool's unapologetic and unrestrained nature.

But based on the words of the film's director Shawn Levy (who is also set to direct his own Star Wars movie), things seem to be going along as well as he'd hoped. Deadpool may be part of the MCU now, but he's still Deadpool.

Deadpool 3 is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 8, 2024.
