Ryan Reynolds recently finished filming Netflix’s The Adam Project in his hometown of Vancouver. The Deadpool star took to social media to share behind-the-scenes photos from his sci-fi time travel film.

In the upcoming Netflix feature, Reynolds stars as a man who travels back in time to team up with his 13-year old self. Together they strive to find their late father, who has information that could help save the future. Shawn Levy, who is a producer on the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, was tapped to direct a loaded cast that includes Jennifer Garner (13 Going on 30), Zoe Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy), Catherine Keener (Get Out), and Mark Ruffalo (Avengers: Endgame) as Reynolds’ father. Newcomer, Walker Scobell plays Reynolds’ teenage self.

Reynolds took to social media to thank his fellow co-stars after wrapping filming four days ahead of schedule, reminding everyone that the film features numerous different Marvel and DC characters. “Gamora, Elektra, The Hulk, Deadpool, and the kid who’ll eventually play Deadpool when I crawl into a box and turn into a skeleton. If #TheAdamProject is a fraction as beautiful and funny and wild as it was to shoot, then I guess we really pulled something off,” he wrote before going on to thank Netflix and his “beautiful hometown of Vancouver.” Banshee’s Jonathon Tropper penned the script and told Collider that the movie doesn’t focus primarily on time traveling. “It’s a movie about people,” said Topper while also noting that The Adam Project is more about the story of loss and the character's attempts to try to come to grips with what that means through an epic adventure. Netflix has yet to announce when the film will be released.

The Adam Project is the second film Reynolds and Levy have made together. Their upcoming action-comedy Free Guy is slated to be released this May after being pushed back twice due to the pandemic. Reynolds stars as Guy, a video game character that becomes self-aware and realizes that he’s in a Grand Theft Auto-like game. Guy soon refuses to be a non-player character and decides to become the game’s hero. Free Guy also stars Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Taika Waititi. The screenplay was penned by Matt Lieberman (Scoob!) and Zak Penn (Ready Player One). Reynolds has previously stated that he thinks Free Guy is the best movie he’s ever done. “It’s the most pertinent to our times, in that sense,” said the actor to Collider. “Where I feel Deadpool was a movie that was pertinent to the comic book culture when it came out, this really to me speaks in a broader spectrum of where we are in the world and not only that but how we are in the world.”

Nonetheless, Reynolds will reprise his role as the Merc with a Mouth in Deadpool 3, the first installment of the film series since Disney acquired  20th Century Fox and consequently returned the rights to the character to Marvel. Despite the family-friendly nature of Disney, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed Deadpool 3 will be R-rated, with Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin of Bob's Burgers penning the screenplay and a new director likely being brought in to succeed Deadpool 2 helmer, David Leitch.

The Adam Project will be released exclusively on Netflix.
