Many fans of nerd culture know Ryan Reynolds as a Hollywood actor famous for starring in the recent Deadpool movies out of 20th Century Fox, among other notable roles. Video game fans may be more familiar with Reynolds through the Detective Pikachu film where he voiced the titular character.

While Reynolds has recently moved into more video game-related areas of entertainment following Detective Pikachu, such as the upcoming movie Free Guy, he hasn’t been overly involved in the gaming industry as a whole. However, Reynolds recently teamed up with Chief Operating Officer of the AbleGamers charity, Steve Spohn, to promote the charity in a video.

As mentioned above, Ryan Reynolds received critical acclaim from those involved in nerd culture through his portrayal of Deadpool in 2016. In fact, the movie was and remains popular enough to warrant a sequel, with many fans on Twitter asking for Deadpool 3 while the movie was trending there recently. Yet, Reynolds has never really been outspoken about being into nerd culture. However, he has been involved in it in a variety of ways, and now he's added one more to the list.

Recently, Reynolds participated in a video collaboration with AbleGamer’s Steve Spohn to promote the charity. Throughout the video, Reynolds brings his charming and playful sense of humor out while still promoting the seriousness of AbleGamer’s cause. For those who don’t know, the AbleGamers charity helps players with disabilities overcome their specific or unique challenges with resources and equipment so they can play the games they love.

Reynolds opens the video explaining how Spohn asked for his help in promoting the charity saying, “But, full disclosure, he did offer to pay me the 278 million dollar speaking fee that I’ve grown accustomed to.” The video then cuts to Spohn who, after a moment of silence, utters a confused, “I did what?!” The video is a playful and fun way to promote an amazing cause, with Reynolds helping to signal boost AbleGamers simply by having his name attached to the charity in the video collaboration.

AbleGamers is a truly worthwhile cause and it was nice to see Reynolds supporting the charity in this recent video. Perhaps this is the start of seeing Ryan Reynolds involved in more video game-related events or fundraisers. While fans will have to wait and see, they can always revisit him in his starring role in the surprisingly good Detective Pikachu film that released last year.
