In November of last year, Twitch and Rust partnered up to offer viewers free drops for watching Rust content. Every month, there are a handful of Rust streamers that help to design in-game items and skins for their viewers to collect. Twitch drops are not only streamer-specific, providing rewards for people that watch a variety of content creators.

There are a ton of rewards for those that watch any streamer playing Rust for a set amount of time. This may all seem confusing, but getting set up to earn rewards will only take a few minutes. This guide will walk Rust fans through everything they need to know before drop 9, coming up in June 2021.

Updated on September 2nd, 2021 by Payton Lott: Each month, this guide will get updated to reflect the current generic and specific drops. In round 11, which spans from September 2 - September 9, gamers will have the opportunity to get 13 different Rust Twitch drops for tuning into streams. Generic drops have a viewing requirement of 2, 4, and 6 hours respectively. Every streamer-specific drop this month will have a 2-hour viewing requirement. With all of the incredible items up for grabs, people will not want to miss out on the free drops this month. There is also one major change that Facepunch is implementing, which is explained in the September section below. Gamers can get their hands on a handful of items by watching just one stream for a few hours.

How To Qualify

Rust Twitch

Before delving into the details of Rust Twitch drops, there are a few things gamers need to do in order to be eligible. First, they will need a Steam account and a Twitch account. Next, players must make sure these two accounts are linked. The final step is to enable Twitch drops in the Twitch menu. From there, people can check the status of drops at the /drops/inventory page on Twitch.tv.

Streamer Specific Drops

Popular Rust streamers are given the opportunity to help create new content every month. They help design skins, accessories, and decorations for use in-game. Not only do the unique skins look better than the base skins, but they also give fans the opportunity to rep their favorite content creators on Rust island as they play.

Each month, Twitch and Rust will announce the participating streamers and unlockable items for that month. Once the Rust Twitch drops are live, viewers will have a week to complete the challenges in order to unlock drops. For streamer-specific items, drops are almost always unlocked by watching for a set amount of time. These times vary from 1-4 hours and are typically not much longer.

Choose A Streamer Wisely

Users are not able to earn progress on more than one item in the drop at a time, so they need to decide which rewards they want to prioritize. The items and rewards are leaked before the drop week, so people will have time to choose the items they want and the streamers they plan to support. Once an account has watched a channel for the allotted amount of time, the drop will be unlocked for the player, who can still earn more rewards by watching more content.

Because the majority of specific drops require four hours of viewing, there are a limited number of drops that can be acquired on drop week. By browsing through the available options, and doing a little research, gamers can unlock at least a few of the rewards each week.

Generic Drops

Unlike specific drops, generic drops are unlocked by spending time watching any streamers play Rust on Twitch. There are typically three different generic items to earn by watching 2, 4, or 6 hours of any number of Rust streams.

Many of these items are not as impressive as the specific drops, but there is always at least one worthwhile reward each month. It is generally a good idea to look at the drop items before committing 6 hours to watch Twitch. Viewing any Rust stream that has the "Drops Enabled" tag will count toward drop progress.

On the last day of the drop, which is September 9th, players will be able to acquire both streamer and generic drops. This is completely new to Rust, as streamer specific drops were only available to viewers that tuned in to the streamer. Facepunch is likely giving those late to the round a chance to get some of the more desirable items.

People that do not realize a drop is live until the last day will not have enough time to get more than one or two drops. It is nice that the community will be able to get at least a couple of good items while the window is open. Hopefully, the new way the drops are structured will help streamers get more viewers while growing the Rust community. See below for all of the items in Rust Twitch Drop Round 11.

Players That Do Not Own Rust Can Still Qualify

Rust Multiple Grenade Launcher

Anyone that has a Twitch and Steam account can still earn rewards for tuning into qualified channels during a drop week. As long as the accounts are linked, people can collect drops even if they do not own the game. The accounts must be linked in order to claim rewards once the game is purchased. This feature is great for people who enjoy watching Twitch before making a purchase, and is a win-win for all parties involved.

Drops For Rust Console Edition

At this point, there are unfortunately no drops for the console edition of Rust. Twitch drops are currently Steam-specific items that can only be unlocked by playing Rust on Steam. It is unclear if Twitch will create a drop system and partner with Double Eleven for the console version of the game. It would be a nice feature to bring new console players to the community. Rust may be an older game, but the console edition was released recently and brought plenty of new players to the fanbase.

Another consequence of the drops being Steam specific is that people will not be able to access their drops on console. All of those hard earned rewards will only be accessible on PC. No one knows if the items will be able to be integrated or linked at a future time. However, it would seem counterintuitive for Steam to encourage gamers to get off PC and play on console. Steam benefits from having more players migrate over to PC, and for that reason, there will probably never be a way to port over drops to the console edition.
