A recent video outlines some more features and updates that are coming to Facepunch Studio's brutal open-world game Rust, with one change affecting the realism of the water. With the only goal in the game being to last as long as possible, the 2018 survival title is notorious for its difficulty. Players begin with nothing but a rock and a torch, not even any clothes, and newcomers can often struggle to make it through the first few nights as they avoid other people and wildlife while scrounging for resources.

With the Rust Christmas event now over, which came with gingerbread-themed mines and some in-store items befitting the holiday season, the developer is looking to move forward. Over the years, Facepunch has put out a number of patches that have implemented new features in the game, including plenty of bug fixes, general quality-of-life improvements, and a hardcore mode for those who don't feel the game is sadistic enough. Now the studio is continuing these endeavors with some future updates looking to improve things further.

According to a video from the YouTube channel SHADOWFRAX, as seen by PCGamesN, Rust will be getting some future patches to keep the game in good shape. One of the big implementations will be the addition of adapters to structures, allowing players to "daisy chain" containers. There are also going to be some changes to the game's water, specifically a "big visual upgrade," with tweaks to the shorelines and more extreme storms the further a player goes out into the ocean. There will also be improved boat physics. However, the video says that these updates won't be ready for February's patch and things are subject to change.

In the fan community, Rust is known for its significant and frequent updates, which go beyond just a few tweaks here and there. There has been a lot added to the game since it released in early access in December 2013. However, as nice as all these changes are, it doesn't alter the fact that it's a very tough game.

Some regard it as one of the most brutal survival games around, on par with 7 Days to Die, Don't Starve, The Long Dark, and DayZ. What makes it so difficult is that not only do players have to watch out for one another, but the landscape itself is teeming with dangers like wild animals and harsh weather conditions. It definitely separates the wheat from the chaff, but it's likely this savage gameplay that keeps some fans coming back for more.

Rust is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
