Rust 1.0 was released three years ago, but the early access version has been available since 2013. The Rust player base has grown each year since it was first introduced eight years ago. Rust is an engaging survival game that combines aspects of PvP, RPG, and Survival. In just a couple of weeks, a console version will launch on the Xbox and PS.

Rust has proven to be one of the best survival titles of all time. The new influx of console players will certainly bring in even more people to the community. Before buying the game on console, there are a few things consumers should be aware of.

Console Development

Rust Visual Update

Facepunch Studios is the mastermind behind the original Rust title. They have been developing and updating the game for almost a decade. The Console edition of Rust was developed by Double Eleven, a growing studio that most recently worked on the Minecraft Dungeons. The studio has also worked on the popular titles Crackdown 3 and Goat Simulator.

While Double Eleven may not be a household name, they have a growing resume of successful work. According to the developers, they have taken the time to try and retain some of the core gameplay while optimizing aspects of the game for consoles. It remains to be seen what all of these console changes will be, but there are a few things to look out for. Building will definitely be different on console, and there will likely need to be some form of aim assist for controller players.

Bonuses Of Pre-Ordering The Game

People that decide to put in a pre-order for Rust will get a few extra bonuses. Specifically, players will receive the Future Weapons and Tools Skin Pack. The skins will be a new spear, pickaxe, hatchet, and bow. These additions will be helpful for new players when they spawn into the game for the first time. In a survival game like Rust, any advantage is helpful.

Deluxe Edition

There are two upgraded versions of the game for people that want even more content at launch. In addition to the skin pack, gamers will receive the Welcome Pack, three days of early access, beta access, and staging branch access. For an extra $10, these other bonuses are a great deal.

Ultimate Edition

The most expensive version of the game will include the above features, as well as an upgraded welcome pack, an Elite Combat Skin Pack, and 1,100 Rust coins. For all these amazing features, people will have to spend $80s, which is $30 more than the basic pre-order game. Players that have some Rust experience, or are committed to playing the game more than most will certainly enjoy having these bonuses.

Post Launch Development

Double Eleven has confirmed that they will continue to update and develop the console edition following the launch of the title. This is a positive for the longevity of the game. It also means that there will be a dedicated team for just the console game, providing more support than if it were still in the hands of Facepunch. The developers at Double Eleven have stated that the roadmap for the Console version will differ from the PC version as well.

Rust Console Edition Will Support Console Cross-Play

This is good news for the community as a whole. Thousands of new players will flood into the community and ensure a healthy player base for some time. However, cross-play will be limited to the Xbox and PS. It makes sense because the console version will be a completely different version of the game. This may seem like a downside, but there are a few reasons why it may actually be beneficial in the long run.

Leveling The Playing Field

PC players have several advantages over console players that could make it troublesome for console players to compete. The first is gameplay time and experience. Most PC players will have a lot of knowledge about the game while console players are experiencing the title for the first time.

Even an optimized console version will not have the graphical quality of the PC version. Additionally, key binds and mods provide an unfair advantage for console gamers, who only have a few buttons at their disposal.

Series X And PS5 Players Will Have Access To The Game

Cross-play

Development of the console version has been going on for some time, but the intended release was for the prior generation of consoles. As a result, there is still no confirmed date for a next-gen release just yet. Unfortunately, the new title will not take advantage of the new features on the next-gen consoles. Hopefully, a more optimized version of the game will be developed after the initial launch.
