So far, many in the gaming community are optimistic that Double Eleven will produce a game that retains the same gameplay feel and mechanics of the PC version. The studio has stated that they will be optimizing the game for the Xbox and PS to make some necessary changes while keeping the features that make the PC version so successful.

With thousands of new players jumping into the game for the first time, it will help to know a few crucial things about surviving in Rust. This guide will cover ten different tips that can help new players as they begin their journey.

10 Rust Island Map

The map is a valuable resource for players early in the game. It denotes the monuments, which are areas with the best loot and also the most traffic. Knowing how to use it is key.

The small yellow circle on the screen shows where the player is located on the island. Green circles represent the various shops on the island. Gamers can see the roads that connect the various monuments, as well as the three biomes in Rust.

9 Biomes In Rust

The three Rust biomes are the Tempered Biome, the Desert Biome, and the Snow Biome. Each has its unique traits that make survival different.

Tempered Biomes contain wild plants and other valuable resources. These are the easiest biomes to survive in, especially for new players. Desert Biomes are barren and hot during the day, and cold at nighttime. Snow Biomes are cripplingly cold, and survivors will need clothes while traversing them.

8 Rust Island Monuments

Monuments are labeled on the map by name, and are the primary points of interest on the map. New players will want to be cautious while exploring them, as they attract a lot of users. The surrounding area of a monument provides the best crate loot on the map. Each monument has a recycling machine that players can use to break down items.

Players will also need to use the monument workbenches to craft and repair items. Oil Refineries are located at monuments as well, which are used to turn oil into usable fuel. Finally, Research Benches near the monuments allow gamers to turn their scrap into blueprints.

7 Types Of Monuments

Each monument in Rust varies in size, and not all provide the above services. Smaller monuments like the Abandoned Supermarket and the Outpost only have a small amount of loot, and usually just have one or two services. These locations are good early game places to loot, as they do not have radiation.

Larger monuments provide better loot and more services. However, gamers will need clothing to protect themselves from harmful radiation. Always bear risks in mind when heading for these locations.

6 24 Hour Cycle

Days in Rust last for 45 minutes, and nights last for 15 minutes. Once the map is dark, it is difficult to see anything, even after adjusting brightness settings. Be sure to prepare for the darkness, and whatever might lurk in it.

Newcomers will want to build a base and sleep in it for the majority of the night. Nothing is more terrifying than exploring the map in complete darkness.

5 Safe Zones

Rust Outpost

Any of the monuments that have a green shop icon are designated safe zones. Survivors will not be able to attack each other while inside of these zones, so players can let their guard down a little bit.

The Outpost and Bandit camp have several different services that can be utilized without having to deal with enemy players. New players should use these safe zones instead of the other monuments whenever possible.

4 Animals In Rust

There are five different species of animals in Rust. Gamers can hunt them for food and other resources. However, a few are just as much of a threat to the player as players can be to them.

Wolves, Boar, and Bears are all aggressive species that will attack anyone near them. Early in the game, avoiding and running from these animals is probably the best option. Chickens and Deer, on the other hand, are docile creatures. Beginners should target them when hunting for food.

3 Best Early Game Clothing For Cold & Radiation

For just 65 cloth, players can create a Burlap set that provides 11 radiation resistance. Cloth can be obtained by butchering slain animals with a Hatchet. It is also a byproduct of Hemp, which is located in various locations throughout the forest.

The basic Burlap set provides enough radiation resistance for medium-sized monuments, a step up from the smallest ones. Hazmat suits provide 50 protection, and are decent armor options in the early game.

2 Finding Food, Water, And Building A Base

Food is plentiful in Rust. Gamers can harvest plants near rivers, loot near monuments, or hunt animals for food. Survivors can drink water directly from lakes and rivers. With food and water in their inventory, the other essential for survival will be shelter.

The best locations to build a base are close to the Outpost or Bandit camp, which are both safe areas on the map. In order to build a small 1x1 base, people will need building plans, a wooden hammer, a wooden door, and a keylock. Most simple builds will require at least 500 wood and 1500 stone. 1 Crafting Weapons & PVP

Rust Assault Rifle

If another survivor screams that they are friendly, it would be smart to not believe them. Almost every other player in the game will kill anyone without hesitation. For that reason, it is important to be prepared for a fight. Gamers will want to find a rock and start chopping down trees as soon as possible to craft a spear with 300 wood. Next, they should hunt animals and look for hemp to craft a bow, which requires 200 wood, and 50 cloth.

The large grey boulders on the map can be mined to produce stone, which players will need in addition to wood in order to craft arrows. The resource is easier to harvest when using a stone pickaxe, which is crafted with 200 wood and 100 stone.  Likewise, survivors will want a stone hatchet, which is crafted with the same materials.
