Even the most devoted Sonic the Hedgehog fans tend to agree the speedy blue rodent has had some rocky games after the Genesis days, and while there is some disagreement about what the worst of the Sonic games are, most agree that Sonic Colors is one of the better entries in recent memory. The game is over ten years old now, but one video game company may have let it slip that a Sonic Colors remaster is coming.

Released in 2010 exclusively for the Nintendo Wii (with an alternate version for the Nintendo DS), Sonic Colors saw the blue blur foiling Dr. Eggman's plans in a giant amusement park. Perhaps the most self-aware and fourth-wall breaking Sonic the Hedgehog game to date, Colors was praised by critics and audiences alike for its tight controls, smart story, and stunning visuals.

Given the fact the game was a Wii exclusive, and considering its excellent reputation, Sonic Colors is often brought up when conversations turn to the topic of which Sonic games need a remaster. Now, according to credits listed on the official website of iksample, a team that works on audio design and localization for video games and film, fans might be getting their wish. Written in the Queen's English on its website, under projects iksample worked on in 2020, "Sonic Colours" is listed.

However, before fans get too excited there are a few caveats of which to be aware, namely that there is speculation iksample might simply have listed the wrong game by mistake. Backing this theory up is the fact iksample states it worked on the game in 2020. Games often take years to complete, but it's odd that the world has heard no news of a Sonic Colors remaster from Sega or any other source so long after the game was localized for different regions. Of course, Colors is a fairly long game by Sonic standards, so it's possible a remaster is still in development and Sega merely isn't ready to reveal any details.

The other caveat about iksample's involvement in a possible Sonic Colors remaster is that on the company's "about" page Sonic Colors is mentioned again, only the image used is artwork from Sonic Boom, a 2014 Wii U title that wasn't as well-received as Colors. However, 2021 does mark the hedgehog's 30th anniversary, and while everything from Sonic figurines to 30th-anniversary Sonic comic books have been announced, Sega has been extremely tight-lipped when it comes to news about a new Sonic video game.

Nintendo released remasters of several classic Mario games for the plumber's 35th anniversary, so it's possible Sega's planning a similar move and the Sonic Colors remaster is a part of the big plan. The blue blur officially turns 30 on June 23, so if the Sonic Colors remaster is indeed real, it will likely be officially announced around that date.
