The big three. Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony. These are the three names that come to most peoples' minds when they think about the gaming industry, but these weren't always the recognizable household names they are now. A few years ago, you couldn't leave your house without hearing mention of Sega, and, most recently in the console department, the Sega Dreamcast.

Now, there's a rumor circulating that Sega is currently working on a console to enter into the next generation of the console wars. This comes from their recent announcement that they have signed on to work with Imagination Technologies in the United Kingdom on the "very high-tech image of the next generation console."

This could be little more than wishful thinking, but there's always the possibility that this could happen. Still, this could just mean that Sega is helping another company to decide how their next generation console will look. There's really no way to know for sure without more information. Only time will tell.

Even though the Sega Dreamcast didn't do very well in terms of sales, I'm clinging to this rumor in hopes that it's true, as I'm one of the people who, still to this day, loves the Dreamcast despite all the negative attention it garnered. With games like Sonic Adventure, Jet Grind Radio, Crazy Taxi, and Chu Chu Rocket, I'd love to see what Sega could do with today's technology. It's no doubt that they had some incredibly creative ideas back in the Dreamcast's day, so it would be interesting to see what they'd be able to do now. Regardless, I guess we'll just have to wait it out and see what happens.

How did you feel about Sega as a console developer back in the day? Would you like to see a new Sega console?
