I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- every time E3 rolls around, the biggest hype always surrounds the Nintendo consoles and their titles. Whether it's rumors regarding Zelda Wii, or speculation about possible titles for the 3DS, Nintendo have always been good at keeping secrets and causing widespread underground hype.

This time, the hype is surrounding the hit franchise Donkey Kong. Remaining quietly in the shadows since Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast, our monkey friend hasn't had much exposure recently. But according to the folks over at IGN, it seems he may be getting his chance in the spotlight very soon.

According to unnamed sources, it appears that Retro Studios, the Nintendo Second Party Development team responsible for the simply fantastic Metroid Prime trilogy, are hard at work reviving Donkey Kong, possibly for an announcement at tomorrow's press conference. Whilst it's highly unlikely we'll be seeing a First-person revival of the series, with Retro Studios, it's wise to prepare for the unexpected -- but don't forget to keep a little faith that these guys know how to make a great game.

Last time Retro Studios spoke to press for comment, they simply said that they were;

"well underway with our next title. I think you'll be excited when you find out what we're working on."

Is it also possible that the many years of internet speculation will be right? May we actually, finally witness Kid Icarus Wii? (I wouldn't hold your breath there, kids.) Either way, I'm excited by the possibility of Retro Studios working on Donkey Kong Wii. They're a fantastic development team, and I honestly believe there's life in the old boy/monkey yet. Just please, don't make it a first-person shooter (with a banana as the gun).

What do you think of the possibility of a new Donkey Kong Wii title? Do you think Retro Studios would do a good job? Let us know in the comments below.
