Currently, the video game world is experiencing something of an epoch in remasters, what with the Grand Theft Auto trilogy on the way, and the likes of Alan Wake and the Crysis games all recently being given a new lease on life. Speaking of the upcoming GTA remaster, fans may be wondering about the whereabouts of anything related to the next installment in the open world series, as well as whether any other remasters are on their way. With Rockstar remaining tight-lipped about any updates, especially regarding GTA 6, it's left up to fans to speculate.

According to a recent report, the whereabouts of Grand Theft Auto 6 are not only a mystery, but it appears as though the game is now in development hell, with the project having elements changed over the years. This rumor comes from French YouTuber Rockstar Mag, a reliable leaker on all things related to the GTA games, who says that the sixth installment in the franchise restarted development when Dan Houser left the company last year.

However, on the flip side, it's possible that the studio is currently hard at work on a remaster of the first Red Dead Redemption, something which fans have likely been thinking of as a possibility since the GTA remaster was announced. Rockstar Mag's Chris goes on to speculate that this won't simply be a resolution increase, but a remaster that incorporates new graphical assets. Chris also stipulates that if a RDR remaster is in the works, it's unlikely to be coming out any time soon. It would also explain why the developer is still kicking its heels about Grand Theft Auto 6.

It needs to be stressed at this point that these are simply rumors. With GTA 5 being announced ten years ago, it does seem as though fans are long overdue for some information about a follow-up. It would be a shame if GTA 6 was in development hell, especially given that it's fast becoming one of the most anticipated games in recent gaming history. Conversely, it would make sense for Rockstar to be working on a remaster of Red Dead Redemption, given that remasters and remakes are currently in vogue, and it's extremely popular among gamers.

With GTA fans scouring the landscape for any clues about the sixth game, it seems as though the community is almost becoming desperate for any news about it. As time marches on, it seems like Rockstar is becoming less and less keen to move forward, certainly not while GTA 5 and GTA: Online are such money spinners right now.
