Multiple rumors have surfaced regarding the Call of Duty franchise recently, as leakers have speculated that the series may make many interesting changes in the future. The latest Call of Duty rumor relates to the possibility of a new standalone experience of one of the series' most beloved modes.

According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, and leaker Tom Henderson, there will allegedly be no new mainline Call of Duty game arriving in 2023. Some have speculated that this is the result of Microsoft's Activision Blizzard acquisition, as Call of Duty: Vanguard did not do as well as the company expected it to. Microsoft may have encouraged the alleged delay as a means to get the series back on track, however, it seems as though a different kind of Call of Duty could come about in 2023.

Leakers Tom Henderson, RalphsValve, and CODMW2Informer have allegedly received insider information regarding the possibility of a surprising change for the franchise. This change is speculated to come in the form of a new free-to-play Call of Duty zombies standalone game, which is said to be developed by Treyarch and will supposedly release in 2023.

If these rumors turn out to be true, it could be a huge step in the right direction for the franchise. Many fans were unhappy with the zombies mode in Call of Duty: Vanguard, as they instead asked for updates for the previous game in the series, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. A standalone game would allow the developer to focus entirely on the zombies experience and tweak it to fans liking accordingly.

Earlier this month, Tom Henderson was able to accurately leak that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would be releasing later this year alongside Call of Duty: Warzone 2. The leak was confirmed to be true only a day later when Activision officially announced the very same information. This shows that the possibility of gamers receiving a standalone Call of Duty zombies game is not entirely out of the realm of possibility, especially when one considers that more than one leaker shared the information.

Another leaker also came out in the last week claiming to have details regarding the multiplayer mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The details the leaker provided related to the maps, killstreaks, and UI that are said to make an appearance in the upcoming game. As with most leaks, unfortunately, only time will tell whether any of this information proves to be true.
