The free games for PS Plus in March should be announced soon, but a last-minute rumor claims that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be one of those titles. This rumor comes by way of the co-host of XboxEra podcast, Shpeshal Ed, that warned fans to make sure they are subscribed to the service if they haven't yet bought the remake. As with all rumors of this nature, there's no way to know for certain if it's true, and fans should take it with a grain of salt. Thankfully, this time there's not long to wait as the free games for March should be announced sometime today.

For those that aren't aware, subscribers to Sony's PS Plus service receive two to three free games to play every month. This can often be hit or miss, but in 2020 Sony has been outdoing itself with each announcement. Seeing Final Fantasy 7 Remake as a free game would be a welcome surprise, but it may be unlikely.

Aside from giving fans a chance to play Final Fantasy 7 Remake if they haven't purchased it yet, this could also mean great things for the second part of the remake if the rumor is true. Sony often uses PS Plus games as a way to stir up excitement for an upcoming sequel or spin off, so it could be that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be free in March in order to get fans ready for the release of part two of the remake. Of course, this is just speculation on a rumor, so fans probably shouldn't get their hopes up.

Sony has already stated it plans to continue adding launch games to the PS5's PS Plus game list, and it seems like it wants to provide high profile PS4 titles as well. Recently fans were treated to great games like Control: Ultimate Edition and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, so Final Fantasy 7 Remake doesn't seem too far fetched. Now that the PlayStation 5 console is out, it may also be an excuse for players to see how the game plays and feels on the new hardware.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake was highly praised when it released back in April of 2020, and with its one-year anniversary approaching, it would be nice for more fans to be able to celebrate it. Until the official announcement from Sony details what games are free, it would be best for fans to keep their expectations in check, though.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is available now on PS4.
