Although many would consider Darksiders 3 one of the most disappointing games of 2018, there's no doubt many would also take another entry in the franchise. After all, it reportedly met expectations for publisher THQ Nordic and has been a popular franchise for quite some time. It seems those hoping for another entry could be getting one sooner than they'd expect, as recent rumors indicate that THQ Nordic will be announcing a new Darksiders game, Darksiders: Genesis, at E3 2019.

As with all rumors, this should be taken with a grain of salt, especially given that Darksiders 3 just launched in November. The rumor is substantiated by other rumors of THQ Nordic's E3 2019 line-up, so on the other hand, it's not entirely impossible. This rumor has actually been on the internet since February 2019 when THQ Nordic attempted to host an 8chan AMA, and the screenshot below showcases every game the publisher is supposed to showcase. Although this could be a simple trolling attempt and holds little water on its own, this rumor has also recently been given credence by a few of the publisher's comments.

Recently, THQ Nordic promised the return of a "galactically beloved game/franchise" and a "new vision" of an existing franchise. The former adds credence to the rumors that THQ Nordic's plans include Destroy All Humans, which certainly fits with the term "galactically." But the latter "new vision" could very well apply to Darksiders: Genesis if it isn't a mainline entry like Darksiders 3.

The title itself, Darksiders: Genesis, could very well lend itself to this "new vision." After all, every entry thus far in the Darksiders franchise has been numbered, so the Genesis subtitle could suggest that it is some type of spin-off, connected but ultimately removed from the mainline series that portrays War, Death, Fury, and Strife's roles in the apocalypse from the original entry through Darksiders 3.

Again, until THQ Nordic decrees the aforementioned rumors as alive or dead, or until E3 confirms or discredits these rumors, this should all be taken with a grain of salt. For those currently looking to scratch their Darksiders itch, Darksiders 3 now has a classic combat mode, as some did not appreciate the game's new combat.

Darksiders 3 is available right now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
