Back in 2017, Bethesda released Prey, a science fiction horror FPS developed by Arkane Studios, which was a reboot of a 2006 first-person title of the same name. While the 2006 Prey was due for a sequel, which was sadly cancelled in 2014, Arkane's vision was a successful rebranding of Human Head Studios' entry. In any case, fans have been hoping for a true sequel in some form or another, and it seems as though that may be on the cards, according to a rumor.

Via a report which cites a post from 4chan, Arkane Studios may be about to announce an official sequel to 2017's Prey. The rumor states that the studio is simultaneously working on this new entry in the series, as well as the upcoming Redfall. It goes on to say that a smaller team is working on what could be called Prey 2: Neuroshock and will follow on from the events of the previous game, though will be a "shorter experience." However, it's worth mentioning that, given the source and the fact that the studio has not made any announcements yet, the information provided should be taken with a grain of salt.

No doubt this is something that fans have been hoping for since the 2006 game. If Arkane Studios does unveil this next installment, the 4chan posts posits that the announcement will be made at this year's Game Awards, but will likely just be a "CGI trailer" with the game probably not coming out until a year after Redfall drops. Again, readers are advised to take on board the rumor with some degree of trepidation. The Game Awards 2021 is set to commence this Friday, so fans will know more about whether the speculations are true or not.

Upon release, Prey was likened to BioShock, with some feeling that it could be labelled as "BioShock in space." 2017's Prey incorporated elements of sci-fi with a blend of exploratory horror, an intriguing plot, role-playing elements that allowed players to improve abilities and stats, as well as some fantastic set pieces and the mind-bending "portal technology" brought over from the original game.

With Arkane Studios currently looking to hire new developers, there's a small possibility that new additions to the team could be working on this elusive Prey sequel. It seems as though the team are looking for someone to help with a new FPS, which is unlikely to be Redfall given that that's already deep into development. Hopefully, more will be revealed by the end of the week.

Redfall releases in summer 2022 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
