We are still a couple days away from Nintendo’s anticipated announcement regarding the 3DS, but that doesn’t mean we have to shy away from a couple rumors here and there. This current rumor touts the 3DS has having some pretty decent tech tucked under its multi-dimensional hood.

With some noted improvements to the old DS model on the surface, the 3DS also has some hardware churning underneath that rivals what the iPhone and several Android phones have. With two 266MHz ARM11 CPUs, along with a 133MHz GPU, 4MBs of dedicated VRAM, 64MBs of RAM, and 1.5GBs of flash storage, the 3DS sounds like a pretty powerful machine.

Upping the storage capacity by a very sizable amount indicates that either the new games being developed for the 3DS are going to be delivering much larger save files, or that Nintendo thought it would be nice to improve upon their design in every possible way. After Nintendo claimed they were moving towards better graphics with the 3DS, and having now heard these specs, many may now firmly believe that the 3DS will dwarf its predecessor, at least in terms of technology. Of course, being the best selling console of this generation, don’t count the DS out just yet. Concidering the 3DS’ ability to eliminate the 3D effect, expect many developers to support both platforms.

As a development platform, the 3DS has been catching a lot of eyes. It might not appear to be a significant leap forward, technologically speaking, but with the amount of top tier developers jumping on the bandwagon, it’s hard for gamers not to be believers. Currently, without a price point and a release date, many gamers are on the fence about which way they may fal,l but as soon as Nintendo gives more details, the floodgates will open.

What do you think of these 3DS specs, Ranters? Anything you would have liked to see but did not?
