Rumbleverse, the newest game from Iron Galaxy (makers of games like Killer Instinct) and published by Epic Games, seems to be doing quite well so far. This third-person melee-based Battle Royale has 40 players drop into the illustrious Grapital City to duke it out with melee combos, suplexes, and all kinds of flashy Rumbleverse moves to see who reigns supreme.

Now, in the current version of the game, there are only three options, Solo Queue, Duo Queue, and Playground Explore, which essentially functions as the tutorial zone free-roam area. But, because the maximum party is only two people, it can be a bit of a surprise for those used to four-person BRs.

Additionally, the game relies pretty heavily on the Epic Game Store's friends list system instead of having an integrated one like most other Battle Royales do, so actually joining a party can be confusing. With that in mind, let's review exactly how players are meant to add, connect, and play with each other in Rumbleverse.

How Rumbleverse's Social System Works

Once again, Rumbleverse "sort of" has its own Friends List system, but it mainly relies on the Epic Game Launcher's pre-established Friends List. Players can't add each other to their Friends List in-game --there's no separate Friends List as it just pulls from the EGL, and the Social Overlay that usually works as a substitute in these situations (activated with Shift+F3) doesn't work either.

The most players can do within Rumbleverse is Invite to Party, Report Player, or Block Player. So, it might be easiest to make sure the "Minimize To System Tray" option is off in the EGL settings or be ready to re-launch the Launcher once Rumbleverse starts up in order to invite or add friends using its Friends List.

How to Add & Play With Friends

All that confusing stuff aside, it's relatively simple to get a Duo Party going in Rumbleverse, all things considered. Here's the step-by-step process of how to do it exactly:

  1. Get the Epic Games Username from the friend looking to Duo Queue.
  2. Open the Epic Games Launcher after Rumbleverse is up and running.
  3. Click on the "Friends List" icon on the top right of the Launcher, which is to the left of the "Profile" icon and to the right of both the "Wishlist" and "Cart" options.
  4. Click the second tab of the "Friends List" (the individual person Icon with the plus symbol).
  5. Search their Username (or accept their Friend Request if they sent it first).
  6. Click on their name in the results and then click "Add Epic Friend."
  7. Once added, they should then appear in the "Friends" tab of Rumbleverse's Friends List (click the big plus Icon next to the player character on the "Play" Tab screen).
  8. Players can then either Invite their friends here through Rumbleverse, or their friends should have a "Join Party" option appear on their EGL Friends List when clicking on the player's name.
  9. Once they're in the Party, just make sure the Queue is set to "Duo Battle Royale" and start searching!

This process can be a bit tedious, but the actual gameplay of Rumbleverse is more than worth the aggravation. Duo Queue in this game, especially, has a lot of small ways that it plays differently from a Solo Queue game, so players should try it at least once just to see which they prefer.

And luckily, even if a player doesn't have any Friends online, they can still queue up for Duo Battle Royale and be matched up with a teammate (most of the time).

Rumbleverse is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series One and X/S.
