Rooster Teeth has once again hosted its own event for the Extra Life charity fundraiser, and raised $1,163,801. Though the event was different from past years due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic affecting the world, Rooster Teeth delivered a week-long fundraising event plus a 12-hour live stream.

For those who haven’t heard of Extra Life before, it is a charity fundraiser that benefits Children’s Miracle Network hospitals in North America. As Rooster Teeth is based in Austin, Texas, most of the money it raised directly benefits Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin.

Rooster Teeth has held its own Extra Life fundraising event for eight years, raising nearly $7 million total for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, according to a press release. While plenty of organizations, groups, and content creators participate in fundraising events for the Extra Life charity, Rooster Teeth has one of the biggest annual events. The company’s usual 24-hour live stream event had to be shortened to just 12 hours this year due to the pandemic, but it was able to host a hybrid virtual and in-person broadcast for charity.

The live stream event consisted of several activities and challenges, in which Rooster Teeth hosts were pelted with paintballs or served spicy chips as donation incentives. Donators who tuned in to the Extra life charity live stream pooled donations for spins on a challenge wheel, which held a series of challenges that Rooster Teeth staff performed. More than 11,000 individuals from around the world donated to Extra Life over the course of the event. Despite setbacks from the ongoing pandemic, it seems Rooster Teeth was able to overcome the odds and host another successful fundraising event for a worthwhile charity.
