5 Jamil – The Thief

Jamil in Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song Remastered

A thief from South Estamir, Jamil begins the storyline by setting out on a journey. He is known to be very good at his chosen occupation, with his friend Dowd being keeping him in line most of the time. He is powerful with Foil and Bow, dealing a significant amount of damage with those weapons in battledue to his high level of DEX.

When chosen as the player's starting character, he earns +1 BP regen and +2 LP after obtaining the Faerie's Crown item. Additionally, his LP will be +14 instead. His initial BP is balanced at 50% at the start with a +5 BP regen max. Jamil is a solid character to choose, but far from the best in the game.

4 Barbara – The Dancer

Barbara in Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song Remastered

Barbara hails from a dance troupe. She was gifted the Amethyst, one of the Fatestones, by the enigmatic Minstrel. She works great in the front line and can be a healer or a tank because she has excellent VIT and COM. Despite having average HP, STR, and AGI stat growth, she is flexible at wielding all physical weapon types.

Her initial BP is at 40% start with +6 BP regen. When chosen as the starting character, she will earn +1 BP regen and +2 LP when players obtain the Faerie's Crown item.

3 Hawke – The Pirate Captain

Hawke in Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song Remastered

Hawke was the captain of the pirate ship Lady Luck in the Coral Sea; however, he was betrayed by a fellow pirate named Butcher. Unfortunately, his ship is sunk, forcing him to travel by land. He is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to dealing damage. This is due to his high levels of HP and VIT.

Hawke is an excellent Rogue character — actually, he's one of the best, due to his average AGI and DEX stat growth. His initial BP is balanced at 50% start and +5 BP regen max. When the Faerie's Crown item is collected, he will gain +1 BP regen and +2 LP. His LP will be +16 instead.

2 Claudia – The Girl With The Mysterious Background

Claudia in Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song Remastered

Claudia was raised by a witch of Mazewood named Eule, and her true identity is something of a mystery. Her story starts as she sets out on a journey into Mardias. Claudia is the most effective character in the early game. She can recruit animal companions that are effective during the early stages; however, they lose their effectiveness during the mid and later stages of the game.

Claudia is amazing for the back row as she has high DEX and AGI. Her BP regen is higher than all other characters, at +7 BP even before players obtain the Faerie's Crown. She does have a lower initial BP at 20% start; however, players can easily handle this by using Chalice or Talent Blaster. When chosen as the starting character, she will receive +1 BP regen and +2 LP when the Faerie's Crown item is obtained, but the +1 BP will have no effect as she is locked at her +7 BP regen. However, she will have the highest LP of all main characters with 19 LP.

1 Albert – The Best Option For Beginners

Albert in Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song Remastered

The best option for players to choose for their first playthrough is Albert. His character offers a lengthy storyline that provides players with an excellent introduction to the mechanics of the game and offers a relatively fair level of difficulty. Additionally, if players want to experience a character that can change appearance due to quest completion, they'll want to give Albert a try, as he is one of only two that can do this.

Albert's story begins as monsters attack Isthmus Keep, where he is a young aristocrat. His father, Isthmus Lord Rudolf, sends him to Crystal City to warn the prince. His journey is a lot more difficult than either of them expected, leading to an excellent story for players to experience.

Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song Remastered is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
