As a modern roguelike game, Rogue Legacy 2 has a unique side-quest mechanic called Scar of Erebus, or simply Scars. It’s a secondary progression system, enabling players to earn Soul Stones and upgrade faster.
Some players may be wondering how Scars are unlocked though, or where exactly to find them. This guide explains everything that players could ever need to know about Scar of Erebus Challenges in Rogue Legacy 2.
What Are Scars in Rogue Legacy 2?
Representing traumas and tragic memories, Scars are shiny red collectibles in Rogue Legacy 2. Each Scar uncovers a hidden memory that develops the story and rewards players with Soul Stones, with which they can buy upgrades at the Soul Shop.
There are two types of Scar Challenges: Combat and Timed. The former comes with a boss fight, while the latter is a platforming mission. Based on the player’s scores, the Combat or Times Scar of Erebus rewards them with Bronze, Silver, and Gold trophies, with the Gold one being the most worthwhile.
How to Unlock Scar of Erebus Challenges?
Scar of Erebus is an inevitable part of the questline. To unlock it, players will need to beat Estuary Lamech, the first boss in the game. Lamech is located in Citadel Agartha, and defeating him opens the Drift House on the Docks, in which Geras offers Scar Challenges.

How to Beat Scar Challenges Faster in Rogue Legacy 2
Players should aim to find at least five Empathetic Connections before each Scar Challenge to beat it faster. Empathies are boosters that reduce damage or give extra time during Scar of Erebus missions, and players can use up to nine per challenge.
Another way to facilitate Scars is by equipping the best secondary classes. Also called Fabled, secondary classes allow players to benefit from their skills during the challenges, which is otherwise impossible.
Rogue Legacy 2 is available now for Xbox, Switch, and PC.
