Despite being less popular compared to other genres, roguelike games have been around for quite some time, the first one (Beneath Apple Manor) being released in 1978 for the Apple II. Since then, the gaming community has been blessed with plenty of unique, nerve-wracking roguelikes that punish players every step of their journey. Rogue Legacy is a unique game that blends the family dynasty mechanic found in popular games like Crusader Kings 3, while retaining key features found in roguelike games.

Rogue Legacy 2 took features from Rogue Legacy a step further by introducing even more gameplay mechanics, like intense boss fights that will have players rethinking every step they make throughout their playthrough. The Estuary Irad is one Boss that players will have a brutal time beating, unless they learn its basic move sets.

How To Prepare For Estuary Irad

Insight Buff Rogue Legacy 2

The Estuary Irad boss fight is one of the most challenging boss fights in Rogue Legacy 2, which means players will need to prepare well for the battle. The first step is getting to know where the boss fight is located, since death is almost unavoidable. Players can find the portal that leads to the Estuary Irad boss fight at the Sun Tower, which has lots of dangerous monsters.

Next, players will need to obtain the Long Rest Insight buff, located in the Sun Tower. This buff will grant players a permanent damage buff of 15% against the Estuary Irad, making the fight a lot easier. As for classes, players can technically beat this boss with any class, but the Astromancer is by far the most powerful one to use against Estuary Irad.

Unfortunately, this whole fight will be infinitely harder if the player has the Diva or Mind Into Matter family trait, at which point it is best to die and start a new generation.

Phase One of the Estuary Irad Boss Fight

The first phase of the Estuary Irad boss fight features two sets of giant eyeballs with several attacks. The most common attack shoots several large (destructible) blue fireballs toward the player, which can either be destroyed with Spells/Talents or carefully dodged. The Barbarian class (one of the best classes in Rogue Legacy 2) is helpful during the first phase, since Winter's Shout can destroy all projectiles within a certain radius.

The Estuary Irad will also unleash two different homing projectiles (Curse and Resonant) that will follow the player for a few seconds. Whenever Estuary Irad fires the Resonant orb, it'll shoot another one after a few seconds, so players should be ready to dodge the second orb. Once the boss's HP reaches 50%, it will grow another eye at the bottom of the screen, which starts the second phase of the fight.

Phase Two of the Estuary Irad Boss Fight

As players can expect, the second phase of the Estuary Irad boss fight is significantly more difficult. It will have all the same attacks from the first phase, as well as a third eye that has another set of attacks. One is a circular-type attack that unleashes several Void orbs that can be destroyed or dodged. The third eye will also periodically create a short-ranged blast around itself, dealing massive damage within a certain radius. Players can easily dodge this attack as the third will start to glow before it explodes.

During the second phase, using the Flame Barrier spell works wonders. Since the third eye is stationary, players can rack up lots of Critical Hits as long as they continue hitting it. Players can attack any of the three eyes to hurt Estuary Irad.

Once they have defeated this boss, players will receive lots of useful materials that will help them with future boss fights.

Rogue Legacy 2 is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
