Rocksteady Studios picked up some big wins at BAFTA this year, picking up the Best Gameplay and Game of the Year awards. The studio is far from done with the Arkham Asylum franchise, working on a sequel to the highly acclaimed Batman game. Studio director, Sefton Hill also thinks about the potential for games that take place within the Batman universe that don't surround the Dark Knight himself. VideoGamer interviewed Hill and he had this to say:

I think one of the things about working on Batman is that you really get to see how good all the villains are. I really think there's scope to take some of those villains, even some of the not-so-famous ones like Bane, who has a phenomenal back-story, and really work on turning that into something original and fresh. That's kinda of something [that would be] less popular, but something that could be really interesting and exciting. That could be crazy.

I'm sure those of you who played Batman: Arkham Asylum remember Bane as the first major boss fight and I thought it was one of the best ways Rocksteady could portray Batman in an "against the odds" type of situation. As a huge Batman fan, I think a Bane game could be a tremendous amount of fun if done properly, which I have no doubt Rocksteady would be able to pull off. I'd imagine it to be kind of like the open world Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction game, only with more foreign accents.

Hill also had a single remark regarding the sequel for Batman: Arkham Asylum:

For us as a developer... we're not a mission pack developer. We always want to surprise, we want to come up with something new. That's the challenge for us now, you know? It's something that drives us. When I get up in the morning, when I go to bed at night, I want to be excited by the drive of creating new and original experiences. So for the sequel, for everything that we do, we want to make something new.

I don't know about you, but I'm excited to see what he and his company can cook up. I've still got my fingers crossed for an open-world Batman game and I think if any company could do it, Rocksteady has certainly proven they can.
