British game developer Rocksteady Studios made a name for itself with the Batman: Arkham series of games. The developer's take on The Dark Knight's story won it legions of fans - fans who are now eager to see what the studio is cooking up next. No new projects have been announced since it released Batman: Arkham VR back in 2016 but new job listings may hint at what's to come for the company.

The Rocksteady Studios website reveals that the studio is hiring staff to work on an exciting new project. There are 21 job vacancies in total ranging from animators, programmers, game designers, quality assurance (QA) testers, character development, and more. While the duties of each role will vary based on department, many of the job listings explain that Rocksteady is working on "an AAA title on the next generation platforms."

According to the listing, the game will feature "world class" gameplay animations and "industry leading" character design that pushes the industry forward in the creative and technical sense. Rocksteady's job listings also call for a senior network programmer to develop the "online components" of the game, though it's unclear if the game will have fully-fledged multiplayer modes or just basic social features.

The job listings also offer no hints of what the game could be about. Rocksteady has previously dashed rumors that it is working on a Superman game, though admittedly this could just be to throw fans off the scent. The developer also said that fans will 'lose their minds' over its next game, which is an exciting prospect but doesn't offer up any info. Rocksteady isn't expected to share more concrete details for quite a while and the fact that these job listings are for a permanent basis as well as two-year positions seems to confirm that it won't be released until 2020 at the very earliest.

A 2020 release date for the Rocksteady Studios game would be in line with other rumors that we've heard about the next generation of games consoles. Sony CEO John Kodera has suggested that the PlayStation 5 release date is at least three years away (putting the release in holiday 2021). Bethesda has also hinted that The Elder Scrolls 6 will come to next-generation consoles, while CD Projekt RED has also discussed a next-gen release for Cyberpunk 2077. So while full details aren't known yet, it's clear that the entire industry is thinking about or actively preparing for the next generation of consoles.
