Since the beta days of Red Dead Online, taking down Gang Hideouts has remained exciting and challenging. Now that Red Dead Online is bustling with Frontier Pursuits, Free Roam Events, and Legendary Animals, clearing Gang Hideouts has started to become overlooked.

While clearing Gang Hideouts can be difficult alone, they are extremely rewarding. They are also a good way for outlaws to master their gunfighting skills and collect experience points. There are multiple ways to go about taking down a Gang Hideout, depending on an outlaw’s playstyle. Here are a few different tips to help players conquer Gang Hideouts with ease.

10 Be Patient

Patience is key when approaching every challenging situation in Red Dead Online. When tackling Gang Hideouts, patience is even more important, because players need to assess the situation and plan out their attack.

Gang Hideouts often have up to 20 NPCs scattered throughout the area and they will swarm an outlaw as soon as the first shot is fired. Outlaws should also be mindful of reinforcements that may arrive quickly and try to surround them without warning.

9 Do Not Kill The Gang Leader

Many outlaws make the mistake of taking out the Gang Leader in the heat of battle and not paying attention to where their bullets are flying. Even more stressful is when a player clears an entire Gang Hideout only to be taken out by a cowardly Gang Leader hiding in a closet or basement.

If an outlaw manages to capture the Gang Leader alive, they could be rewarded with a new treasure map or a Collector’s item.

8 Dual Wielding

Having the ability to unload multiple rounds in quick succession can come in handy when surrounded by NPCs. Dual wielding is a deadly effective tactic for outlaws still adjusting to the mechanics of Red Dead Online.

To unlock dual wielding, an outlaw needs to reach Rank 25 in order to purchase an off-hand holster. These are cheap and can be bought at any general store. Many experienced players sport the Navy Revolver when dual wielding.

7 Use Specialty Ammo

Specialty Ammo are incredible in terms of efficiency and performance. They can transform a novice outlaw into a feared gunslinger within a matter of seconds. Not only does Specialty Ammo provide more stopping power, but they also give added experience points per kill.

The Split Point Pamphlet is unlocked at Rank 28 and can be bought at any Fence. Express ammo unlocks at Rank 31 for rifles, repeaters, revolvers, and pistols. Players will also unlock shotgun slugs at Rank 44.

6 Use Tonics

It can not be stressed enough the importance of using tonics effectively while playing Red Dead Online. The most commonly used tonics when tackling Gang Hideouts are the Health Cure and Snake Oil.

Health Cure allows players to take on large amounts of damage for a short period of time and fortifies the health bar slightly. Snake Oil allows outlaws to use Dead Eye continuously for a short period of time and forties Dead Eye slightly.

5 Good Shotgun

Shotguns are the most effective weapon in close-quarters, fighting from horseback, or mowing down waves of NPCs. There are many great shotguns to choose from in Red Dead Online and finding the best one for a particular playstyle can be difficult.

Many new players purchase the Pump Action Shotgun, which unlocks at Rank 5 and has an ammo capacity of five. More experienced outlaws use either the Repeating Shotgun or the Semi-Auto Shotgun, which unlock at Rank 11 and 42 respectively.

4 Take Out All Enemies

Outlaws should take down every NPC they see when facing Gang Hideouts in order to rank up faster. Doing this will net large amounts of experience points with lightning speed, especially when a player uses Specialty Ammo and gets headshot bonuses.

Another added bonus to taking down all enemies is the loot found in their pockets. Fallen NPCs are known to carry everything from gold teeth to ammo, food, tonics, and collectibles needed to complete Collector sets.

3 Watch Out For Gatling Guns

Most Gang Hideouts have a mounted Gatling Gun just waiting to mow down an unsuspecting outlaw. Gatling guns can be terrifying if an outlaw is not used to going up against them.

The best thing for a player to do when facing one is to hunker down and wait for an opportunity to flank the shooter. It is imperative that a player becomes accustomed to using the dive action in order to get out of harm's way and find cover.

2 A Good Repeater

There are many repeaters to choose from in Red Dead Online. Some repeaters are amazing while some are not so good. A lot of people love the Evans Repeater which has an ammo capacity of 26.

What the Evans Repeater lacks in range and accuracy it makes up for with a quick fire rate and reload speed. The Lancaster Repeater is another terrific repeater. The Lancaster Repeater has an ammo capacity of 14 and unlocks at Rank 12.

1 Keep Your Distance

Sometimes it is best for outlaws to keep their distance and use a long-range weapon. This approach is effective if a player scopes out the Gang Hideout and realizes there are too many NPCs to take on at once.

Another bonus for outlaws keeping their distance is the added experience points for long-range kills. A Bolt Action Rifle available at Rank 7 equipped with a long-range scope has enough power to get the job done.
