It's been four years since Rockstar Games released Red Dead Redemption 2, and the developer's next original release is nowhere in sight. While Rockstar Games has announced that it is releasing next-generation ports of Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online, it hasn't revealed what its next original release will be. And while nothing official has been announced, a reputable Rockstar Games leaker has suggested that fans may get answers sooner rather than later.

Tez2 is known for being a Rockstar Games insider, and they took to the GTA Forums recently to talk about Rockstar's next game. In a forum post, Tez2 said that "the new year is pretty much a given" when it comes to Rockstar revealing its next title and that by going by Rockstar's release pattern with its games, it's possible that the developer's next release will drop at some point in 2023.

Fans should take this information with a massive grain of salt, but at the same time, a new game by Rockstar has to be revealed eventually. Rockstar's games make too much money for the franchises to lie dormant, and so it's highly likely that the studio has been hard at work on whatever its next major project is for quite some time. What it is remains to be seen, but if Tez2's information is correct, it looks like fans will find out at some point later this year.

As for what Rockstar's next game is, that's really anyone's guess. The most obvious answer would be Grand Theft Auto 6, as it would undoubtedly generate the most interest and make the most money out of any other gaming project Rockstar could pursue next. Not only that, but other reputable leakers and insiders have reported on GTA 6's existence, hinting at it having an evolving open world like Fortnite and being set in Vice City.

Grand Theft Auto 6 rumors have persisted for years, so it being the next game from Rockstar seems like the safest bet. However, Rockstar has other franchises it could draw from instead, like Bully, for instance. Rockstar has reportedly started development on a Bully sequel on more than one occasion only to scrap its plans, but perhaps it will finally move forward and finish the game.

The next Rockstar Games title could be based on a different one of its franchises or even be a completely original IP. All fans can do is speculate for now and wait for an official announcement from Rockstar.
