Psyonix and Epic Games' high-intensity cars-meets-soccer game Rocket League has been on a roll lately, regularly bringing players new content in the form of rotating game modes, limited-time events, and more. Coming fresh off of the announcement of a February 1 update bringing Fennec Decals and a revamped esports Shop, the online multiplayer game is bringing fans a huge new collaboration.

The Super Bowl is undoubtedly one of the biggest annual sporting events in the U.S., pitting the NFL's top two teams against each other in front of millions of viewers. Although Rocket League is rather loosely based on European football, a new collaboration with the NFL and Super Bowl 55 is bringing American football to the game with a few surprises for players for a limited time.

Psyonix has announced that the NFL Super Bowl 55 Celebration is coming to Rocket League, bringing an all new game mode, a few Event Challenges, and the return of the NFL Fan Pack, a DLC pack that comes with Octane Decals for all 32 NFL teams. The brand-new game mode Gridiron will decorate Rocket League's classic Champions Field with 50-yard lines and an NFL logo, featuring some new rules inspired by American football.

The Gridiron game mode will be a four-on-four match in the transformed Champions Field Arena, replacing the Rocket League ball with an American football. Whenever players touch the ball, it will attach to the roof of their vehicle, allowing for football-inspired handoffs and steals. The ball can be passed between players by dodging, and players who are carrying the ball can jump once, but double jumping drops the ball. Players can score three points by passing the ball into their opponents' goal, or seven points by carrying the ball into the goal. Additionally, players who wander out of bounds will fumble the ball.

Although Rocket League is no stranger to limited-time modes, Gridiron seems to be one of the most involved modes yet. Players who complete three new Event Challenges can earn the Gridiron Guru player title, NFL Wheels, and a whopping 20,000 XP. The NFL Super Bowl 55 Celebration will last from February 2 to 8, and the NFL Fan Pack will be available in Rocket League's in-game shop for 800 credits.

Ever since entering a new free-to-play format, Rocket League has seen incredible success, with thousands of players enjoying the game online at a time. The game's second season has brought a wide variety of content for fans and continues to do so. It will be interesting to see what else comes Rocket League's way in the coming months.

Rocket League is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
