When Rocket League developer Psyonix was acquired by Epic Games last year, it was clear that changes would be coming to the popular car-soccer game. Today, the biggest of these changes, Rocket League’s transition to being free-to-play, has finally arrived, bringing with it a seasonal reset and the removal of the game from Steam’s storefront. Not only that, the transition has set the stage for this weekend’s crossover event with Fortnite, “Llama-Rama."

With the move to free-to-play, the game is now on similar footing with Epic’s popular battle royale, and to celebrate that, the upcoming event will give players the opportunity to unlock exclusive Fortnite-themed rewards in Rocket League, along with Rocket League-themed items that can be used in Fortnite.

In typical Fortnite fashion, players will be able to earn these cosmetic items through in-game challenges that can be completed while they play normally. Completing each challenge will reward players with one Llama-blazoned cosmetic, which they will need to have equipped in order to complete each subsequent challenge. Fortnite players who have been taking on the challenges tied to Season 4's Marvel character skins should have a good idea of what to expect.

The Llama-Rama event will take place from September 26 to October 12. While it won’t be kicking off for another few days, Epic has already revealed the challenges and the rewards each will provide players (which is just as well, since Fortnite’s challenges tend to leak ahead of time anyway). Here’s the breakdown:

CHALLENGE 1: LLAMAS, START YOUR ENGINES!

  • Rocket League Challenge: Play an Online Match in Any Playlist
  • Rocket League Reward: Llama Flyer Antenna
  • Fortnite Reward: Rocket League Spray

CHALLENGE 2 – FLAGGED FOR VICTORY

  • Rocket League Challenge: Win 1 Online Match in Casual with the Llama Antenna
  • Rocket League Reward: Top Llama Topper
  • Fortnite Reward: Holodata Drop Contrail

CHALLENGE 3 – TOP OF THE WORLD

  • Rocket League Challenge: Get 5 goals, saves, or assists with the Llama Topper
  • Rocket League Reward: Loot Llama Octane Decal
  • Fortnite Reward: Rocket Groove Music Track

CHALLENGE 4 – AN EPIC ENDEAVOR

  • Rocket League Challenge: Win 5 Online Matches in Any Playlist with the Llama Decal (Octane)
  • Rocket League Reward: Llama Wheels
  • Fortnite Reward: Rocket League Emoticon

CHALLENGE 5 – LLAMA LEGEND

  • Rocket League Challenge: Get MVP in any Online Match with the Llama Wheels
  • Rocket League Reward: Battle Bus + Battle Balloon Antenna, Battle Bus Wheels, and Battle Bus Engine Audio
  • Fortnite Reward: Octane RL Backbling + style variant

In addition to all of these rewards, completing all of the Llama-Rama challenges will add Fortnite’s Battle Bus to Rocket League’s roster of playable vehicles. This will give Fortnite fans a way to express their love of the game in Rocket League that doesn’t involve plastering cartoon llamas all over their car.

As for claiming rewards throughout the event, players will be able to find the rewards they earn in the game’s Event Challenge Page. Fortnite players, meanwhile, will automatically claim their rewards upon logging into that game, so they won’t have to deal with taking any extra steps before they can take their Rocket League cosmetics out for a spin.

Rocket League is now free-to-play for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
