Movie crossovers in video games have come in all shapes and sizes; whether it's Rambo and John McClane in Warzone, or Arnold Schwarzenegger in Mortal Kombat, plenty of action movies have come to games. Even beyond actors, there are references, places, and objects from movies have made their way into games as well, ranging from subtle easter eggs to overt allusions of movies. Rocket League is one of many popular games that's added plenty of content based on sponsorships and crossovers with other huge film franchises, such as Fast & Furious, many of the Batman/DC films, Ghostbusters, and most recently with the 007 movies.
As time goes on, Rocket League has seen plenty of pop culture references added to the car roster. Adding the classic Aston Martin DB5 from James Bond means there's certainly room for more iconic movie cars to join the already-impressive collection of film cars. Even with the stylish Fast and Furious Skyline GT-R, as well as the iconic Back to the Future DeLorean DMC-12, there's still a plethora of vehicles that could see representation in a seasonal expansion or crossover DLC.
Lotus Esprit From The Spy Who Loved Me
Of course, when someone thinks of the car James Bond would drive, everyone thinks of British carmaker Aston Martin. More specifically fans think of the Aston Martin DB5, first appearing in the Sean Connery-starring 007 movie Goldfinger. However, throughout the years and numerous new entries in the 007 franchise, there have been several fantastic "Bond cars" that would fit right into Rocket League alongside the soon-to-come Aston Martin DB5.
A prime example that comes to mind would be the Lotus Esprit from The Spy Who Loved Me, and could even sport its submarine body kit (though ideally without the water on stage during a Rocket League match). Honorable mention would go to the newer Aston Martin DBS V12 and V12 Vanquish from Casino Royale and Die Another Day, or perhaps the BMW Z8 from The World is Not Enough.
'Herbie,' The 1963 VW Beetle From The Love bug
While perhaps not as iconic as it used to be, the old VW Beetle with a mind of its own would be a goofy-but-endearing addition to the Rocket League car roster. There probably wouldn't be much in the way of customization for the Herbie car, considering it's got a very specific design, but it'd still be an iconic add to the roster. Even if players don't remember the old The Love Bug movies from 1968 onwards, the Herbie Beetle is still a pretty well-known design in terms of movie cars. Plus, Rocket League has never really had a Beetle-like design in any of its original cars, despite having similarly sized cars with different designs as well.
The 'Ferrari' From Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Placed along supercars already on the roster, like the McLaren 570S, the "Ferrari" from Ferris Bueller's Day Off would be a perfect movie car addition to Rocket League. Considering the iconic Ferrari "Racing Red" has already graced Fortnite with its presence in the Ferrari 296 GTB, bringing another iconic Ferrari to Rocket League makes even more sense. Even if the original Ferrari from the film is actually a replica of the original 250 GT California Spyder, being able to score some goals in the iconic coupe would be frankly badass. If a Ferrari can end up in Fortnite, then what's stopping another more iconic Ferrari from ending up in Rocket League?
Christine's 1958 Plymouth Fury
Speaking of iconic red cars, a certain Stephen King-fueled addition to Rocket League could add some horror flair to the car roster. Christine's iconic red prowler would make a lot of sense given the combative nature of Rocket League's gameplay, and is easily one of the more iconic movie cars ever designed. Originally envisioned by King as a 1958 Plymouth Fury, a young teen named Arnie buys the unassuming classic car to make a statement to his friends.
Shortly after driving the car, Arnie starts to develop a manic personality, all while the Plymouth Fury becomes more and more sentient and aggressive. This aptly named "Fury" would be a sinister addition to Rocket League's car roster worthy of intimidating all opponents.
The Mini Cooper Crew From The Italian Job
One specific model of car that belongs in Rocket League would be the crew of Mini Coopers known from the chase scene in The Italian Job. These little horsepower monsters were unique for a Hollywood chase scene, largely because the cramped streets of Europe led to the perfect avenue to feature the British compact cars. After successfully executing one of the largest gold heists in history, Michael Caine's Crooker and crew escape the Italian police throughout the city of Turin in Mini Coopers. Adding this iconic trio of Mini Coopers into Rocket League has been an often fan-requested addition to the game, and would be an ideal compact choice for Rocket League.
1968 Ford Mustang GT From Bullitt
Marking one of, if not the most iconic car chase scenes in American film history, Steve McQueen's famous 1969 Ford Mustang from Bullitt would've been an even better Mustang to put into Rocket League. The game already features a modernized Ford Mustang from the Nascar/F1 DLC bundle that released this April, however, the Bullitt version of the Mustang would be the perfect movie car for Rocket League. Any movie fan, or classic car enthusiast, would be psyched with the Bullitt Mustang in their car collection, pulling off all the fancy driving movies that the "King of Cool" did on set over fifty years ago now.
Transformers' Chevy Camaro
Last but not least, an easy gimme for iconic movie cars would be one from the Transformers films, and what better to add then Bumblebee's iconic Camaro. First shown in the titular 2007 film, Bumblebee's humble beginnings start with a beat up 1977 Chevy Camaro Z/28, though the Autobot does eventually adapt and upgrade to a 2007 Camaro SS. Bumblebee's form does change throughout the many Michael Bay Transformers films, all the way up to the standalone Bumblebee film in 2018. The iconic black and yellow Camaro would be a shoe-in for Rocket League, bringing the space-faring automotive knight's combative spirit into the game.
