As November gets closer, players around the world have wondered how their old gaming accessories will work with both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X|S. While Xbox fans have been delighted to discover that all of their Xbox One accessories will come with them with full functionality into the next generation, PS5 advocates have had the dismay of realizing that their PS4 controllers will only work on PS4 games. However, it seems that fans of Rock Band 4, regardless of console, will be happy to learn that their instruments will work on both of the new consoles.

In a post on the Harmonix Blog, the developer confirmed that a large amount of the Rock Band 4 instruments that were used this generation will work on the new consoles. While not every single instrument peripheral ever created for Rock Band was tested, Harmonix stated that it believes that, in general, "if it worked on Rock Band 4 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, it should work on next-gen."

Harmonix continued this announcement by telling players that, not only will Rock Band 4 and all of its DLC work on both the PS5 and Series X, but save data will also transition over as well. Players on Series X|S should be able to access their save data through a cloud save, and PS5 players will need to either use cloud save from their PlayStation Plus membership or perform a hard drive transfer.

Rock Band 4 is more considered a reboot to the series than a sequel

The blog post went on to discuss how Rock Band 4 will perform on the new consoles as well. Harmonix said that players should see a vast improvement in both performance and load times on both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. These statements fall in line with other reports surrounding both of the new consoles, with games like Devil May Cry 5 sporting load times of a mere two seconds.

Finally, Harmonix then provided details surrounding cross-generation play. The Rock Band developer assured players that they don't need to fear purchasing one of the new consoles and leaving their bandmates in the dust, as Rock Band 4 will support cross-gen play for PS4 and PS5 players, as well as Xbox One and Xbox Series X players.

Overall, it seems that Harmonix is putting in the work to make sure that players can still enjoy every bit of Rock Band 4 in the next generation. Whether it's Blue Öyster Cult or The All-American Rejects, it seems that both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are prepared to rock.

Rock Band 4 is available now on PS4 and Xbox One.
