Roblox is a platform that allows for original and fan-made creations to be created and shared across the internet. It has a vast library of user-submitted games that either try something new or put a spin on an existing property. This includes huge franchises like Dragon Ball Z having plenty of Roblox fan-games available to play, all with their own gameplay styles. However, very rarely does a triple-A franchise officially license one of these games, with Sonic Speed Simulator being one of those exceptions.
Sonic Speed Simulator is the result of a partnership between Sega of America and Roblox developer Gamefam, with this game being free to play. It is an open-world multiplayer experience where players can traverse through four different areas inspired by the series. There are also RPG-like elements introduced in this game, with these mechanics helping to level up a character as they blitz through the levels. Players have the choice of using either their Roblox avatars or Sonic and his friends to get around the place, which gives it a great sense of feeling like a triple-A Sonic title, despite only being in Roblox.
The developers behind this Roblox game have announced that there will be a bunch of new content coming to the game, such as Sonic bosses and levels in a future update. However, one of the latest updates to the game has added a bunch of new content already, some of them being cosmetic, with others being tied to the game's mechanics and systems.
The most notable of these is the addition of Knuckles the Echidna as a playable character, where he plays similarly to the other avatars available in the game. The other inclusion is a Sonic Riders-inspired Sonic skin, which gives the blue hedgehog his sunglasses and shoes from the hoverboard racing game series. This skin can be claimed by inputting the code "Riders" in-game, upon which they'll claim this unique skin.
The update also gives players a chance to obtain a limited-time available Chao pet from the Sonic series, which can be evolved further into a Mega Chao. There is also a new racecourse, world, and plenty of gratuity rewards that will be given thanks to the number of likes that have been handed out to Sonic Speed Simulator. The developers state that fans should expect more to come out as the game is going to be updated weekly as well.
