In a surprising study, Roblox reports that over half of all children in the United States play the game, a staggering number. While this may come as a surprise to some, Roblox passed Minecraft in monthly active player counts last August, and has continued to grow and rival the best selling game of all time.
For those unfamiliar, Roblox acts as a sort of sandbox game creation platform where players can either create games or play the creations of others. It has been especially popular among children thanks to how accessible it is, and the Roblox Corporation has capitalized on this, gearing the product towards kids even more.
For the most part, Roblox provides a great creative outlet for kids, so it is no wonder that over half of all kids 16 and under play it, but like any online game it has its dangers. Earlier this month it was discovered that Roblox hackers were spreading Trump propaganda, for example.
It also likely has something to do with the global pandemic sweeping the country at the moment. More and more kids are playing video games at home, and Roblox provides ways for kids to connect with friends on birthdays and other special occasions.
Roblox is available now on Mobile, PC, and Xbox One.
