The Batman's Robert Pattinson appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to discuss his undertaking of The Caped Crusader. Pattinson discussed the evolution of his Batman voice, originally a radical whisper, which ended with trusting the iconic suit to tell him when he had it right.

The anticipation for Matt Reeves' The Batman is only expanding as the release date grows closer. There are many aspects to Batman that actors must get right when they portray the hero, and the iconic voice is certainly one of the most important. If the voice is too gentle or too intense, the heroic story can easily become a parody and lose all credibility with fans. Naturally, this is one aspect of his Batman journey that Pattinson was asked about by Kimmel.

Reeves' take on The Batman has been widely discussed as different from all the previous adaptations, so it stands to reason that Pattinson would want to take a different approach to the famous voice of the vigilante. Pattinson revealed he "wanted to do a radically different" voice from all the other Batmans, which he tried for the first two weeks of production. The English actor attempted to steer away from the deep gravelly interpretation of the voice that so many other actors have portrayed in the role. After the first few weeks of shooting, Pattinson said he was told to stop doing the whisper because "it looked absolutely atrocious." He laughs off the false start with a story he was told about Christian Bale attempting to do the same radical whisper before finding his famous version of Batman's voice. The actor insists that he eventually found the correct voice by paying attention to what felt right while he donned Batman's famous batsuit.

Along with the suit, the car, and the villain he has to fight, the voice of Batman is extremely important. Pattinson's attention and focus on, not just the look but, the sound of Batman suggests that the actor understands how important it is to get it right. On top of being potentially the most anticipated film of 2022, the actor's passion for the role is yet another positive thing The Batman has in its favor.

In the last month, Pattinson has revealed a lot about his take on Batman, and while fans were originally skeptical of his ability to portray the character well, it seems Pattinson embraced the role and focused on every aspect of the hero to bring authenticity to his portrayal. The trailers released so far include Pattinson's version of Batman's voice and, while it isn't the original whisper Pattinson first attempted, there is something that sets it apart from all the others.

The Batman will be released in theaters on March 4, 2022.
