The excitement and anticipation of Robert Pattinson taking on the character of Bruce Wayne can hardly be contained at this point. With the premiere of The Batman being drawn out, fans have to grovel until 2022 to see Pattinson suited up. In this Deepfake video, Christian Bale's head, mannerisms, and even voice are replaced by none other than the future Batman himself: Pattinson.
The Twilight heartthrob carries that same air of mystery behind the eyes that made fans fall in love with him in the vampire saga. Bale is very much adored by Batman fans, so Pattinson taking on the role seems as though it would be met with more backlash. Yet, many fans pushed for Pattinson to be cast as Bruce Wayne and by watching this Deepfake video, it’s very clear why. The video offers a side-by-side comparison of Bale’s performance of Bruce Wayne alongside Pattinson embodying the role. Even fans in the comments who had some previous doubts or opposition when it came to Pattinson being cast as Batman started to fold after watching the Deepfake video.
The sudden change of heart in some people regarding Pattinson's ability to portray such an iconic superhero may also be because of the video’s flawless edit. Pattinson’s version and take on the Dark Knight are vastly different from Bale’s interpretation. The Batman will have less to do with the origin and backstory of Wayne. The upcoming film has revealed that it will be much darker in tone than previous takes on Batman. Just by this fact alone, Pattinson seems to fit the bill.
His acting is all in his facial expressions, the mysticism behind the mask. The intensity that comes with tapping into one of the most well-known characters is a big departure for him. The nature of purity within a superhero who is supposed to be adorned in light and consumed with justice is undoubtedly best brought forth by Bale’s charm. It would only make sense to juxtapose the angelic side of Batman through Bale and pair it with the cryptic Pattinson to represent the hero’s peeled-back layers of depth.
Bale’s presence in the Deepfake video screams innocence. Pattinson’s essence, in the very same scene, clothes, and stature is like a bubbling volcano. There always seems to be something lurking underneath the surface on his face, as if he wears his internal demons like a cape. If there was any hesitation prior as to whether or not Pattinson would fit the bill as the new Bruce Wayne, this video puts it to rest.
The Batman will be released on March 4, 2022.
